I have cruised with both balcony and non-balcony cabins. My preference is
with the balcony for several reasons. The first reason is when I wake up in the
mornings, I can step out onto the balcony and have that morning cup of coffee
OUTSIDE with a breath of Fresh Air. Also we have found that sleeping with the
balcony door open eliminates the dry feeling one gets when sleeping with air
conditioning on. Also when you need a quiet place to unwind, there is no better
place than on your balcony to catch up on some reading, etc...

Lisa: I'll give you ONE guess who will be visiting you in your room a
lot!
Stick to your guns. You won't regret it! As you glide along enjoying
cocktails on your private balcony, you can believe it's your own private
yacht without the upkeep! :-)
Enjoy. ecunn...@worldnet.att.net
<LOL> you are probably right. i love it!!! i am going to stick with my
balcony and enjoy every minute of it.

A balcony is always a good choice. While we sail on HAL,, the
balconies (or verandas) will likely be similar. Expect it to be the
same width as your room (9-10 ft) and about 5-6 ft deep with a chair,
lounger and small table. Trust me, it is well worth except for one
minor problem, you will not want to go back to a verandaless cabin.
We had to do that twice and we really missed it.
Next trip Jan 12 on the MS Statendam, we WILL have a veranda and we
WILL enjoy every bit of it.
One last item, a veranda can be very private and I hypothesize that
95% of the couples with a veranda have tried certain activities (the
other 5% are liars). If you do, get a cushion off one of the deck
chairs. Of course anyone seeing you with such will know you are using
it for.

Actually, when we were on the Century, our King bed was actually two twin
mattresses and it was a snap getting one of those out on the balcony! Much
more comfortable and indiscreet than a deck chair cushion!!
My husband and I have tried both. On the Regal Princess We had a small
balcony and it was VERY enjoyable. Breakfast overlooking the water, or
just having a drink before bed watching the stars. We are interested in
trying an inside cabin don't know if we would ever wake up with out
daylight coming in the window.

I must admit it was fantastic to have a balcony. Of course we also had a
suite to go with it!!! =) there is nothing like walking out of your room
(still in PJ's) and seeing/hearing/smelling the sea! Being able to share a
bottle of bubbly with my husband (We got married on St. Thomas , in the
middle of a Destiny cruise) on our own verandah.. it was like we were all
alone... had the seas all to ourselves. Even though we were traveling with
10 others. If you want the balcony, I say go for it!!

A friend highly recommended getting a balcony for our Panama Canal cruise
in November. We did and I'm really looking forward to it. She said having
the balcony while going through the locks means you don't have to fight the
crowds at the railings.
Now Bob, I am shocked! Surely you are not suggesting that the refined
people of this newsgroup would have even the slightest inclination to
entertain such thoughts! We here do not possess the baser discernments
that you imply in your message; we would never think to engage in such
lewd and lascivious activity on the high seas.
Becca <----hmmm......Lori, can I upgrade to a veranda on the GGC?
Keep your balcony. The balconies are great. When you get up in the
morning and walk out on your balcony it is a real feeling of luxury. Just
sitting out at sometime during the day and in the evening when you are
getting ready to go to dinner walking out on your private balcony gives one
a real feeling of a special experience. Any time you use your private
balcony it is is special.

Jeez, Bob...that was enough of a reason for you to switch TA's? No
wonder this biz is so difficult. I will make sure I remain fully
clothed in all matters pertaining to cruising to retain my clients. I
do appreciate the tip. <VBG>

Lisa-
When you wonder on this just think of roomservice... a light
breakfast on your balcony in your jammies in the fresh ocean breeze...
WONDERFUL!
