Anyone been on the Novikov Pribov on the cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg?
I note several different travel agencies have widely varied prices. Any
reccommendations? What is the ship like in terms of food, accomodations, shore
excursions?

When I discussed this cruise with my travel agent, who is very reliable, she
urged me to stick with a line such as Viking and said the Russian lines are
not nearly as good. Among other things, there is lots of smoking -- which,
of course, might not bother you, but would make me and my wife very unhappy.
Also, you may not have an English speaking guide. And while the food is
nothing special on any Russian trip it will be worse on a Russian line. And
the ships are not as well maintained. All this according to my TA who has
been my TA for over 15 years and whom I trust completely,
We will be taking the Viking Pakhomov beginning June 30th. If you do take
the Novikov Pribov please let me know what it is like.

Trusting your TA is a wonderful thing, however, how many Russian River Cruises
has she taken? Sorry.......but I've seen/heard too many TA's spout wondrous
things about what they do not know.

Actually, she has taken the one she booked us on and she and her husband
enjoyed it very much. She is an assiduous researcher and always does her
homework. She knows us for many years and what we like and don't. In
general, I do my best to evaluate any professional I work with, but once
they have earned my trust, I don't second guess them. I do my own research
(see my earlier posts to this list) but I think trust and respect are
essential in a complex world.

I took the Viking River trip - in a word, fantastic. One the most
fulfilling cruises I have taken. The onboard guides were excellent. I
would not go with a Russian line. Everything we heard was indicated VR
was the best.
