My husband and I would like to do some island hopping to these two
places. Not sure which, Roatan islands or Belize main land or island.

Can anyone tell us about these places. We would like some place
natural and not have big hotels around if this makes since. Or are
there any other places that are more natural so to speak?

Thanks,
Debbie

Yeah, that makes sense, and you have picked the right places. Both are very natural,
no big hotels, no big anything. My favorite of the two is Ambergris Caye in Belize.
Try these.

Anthony's Key in Roatan is another great choice. It is basically a dive
resort but sits on the side of a hill in the rainforest, each unit having
two bedrooms. There is no a/c, none needed in the winter months. You look
across a small stretch of water to a small island complete with a sleeping
unit. Don't stay there though, too many mosquitos.

Not that you asked, but NCL has a western Caribean cruise that goes to Belize,
Roatan, Cozumel and Grand cayman.

Funny you should mention that. That's how we got there. Loved every minute of
it. Seabreeze used to do that itinerary, too, but we know what happended to her.

I have been to Belize and Roatan and think that they are the greatest.
Which Costa Maya are you thinking of?

The diving on the cruise that goes to Belize, Roatan and Cosumel is the
second best to the great barrier reef in Australia.

The Myan Ruins in Belize are the best. The jungle spa in Belize is like
a trip to an African
lodge without the jet lag.

If you stay in Roatan, Fantasy Island is the best resort.

In Belize the Spa at Chaa Creek is unbelievable and one of the best spas
in the world.

Ket me know if you need more details, I'm going back next month.

We spent the day at Roatan, actually Thanksgiving Day, when we sailed on
Norwegian Sea last November. It is a wonderfully un-developed island, with
several small towns, no chains (hotel or restaurant). The folks we talked
with were friendly.

We visited Fantasy Island Resort and found it quite pleasant. The hotel was
a series of two story buildings, a main building and lots of beach and area
to roam. They had an indoor restaurant as well as a pleasant outdoor area
for drinks and food. They seemed to have quite an extensive scuba and
snorkeling program. When took a quick look at their room rates and they
seemed very reasonable. Although they had activities going on at night,
this island does not strike me as having much night life, which would be
very attractive to some. My entire family said we love to return to Roatan
and possibly stay at Fantasy Island.

Roatan was the highlight of the cruise for us.

There are apparently several other resorts on the island.

I have some digital images of Roatan and the rest of my cruise at

Roatan is definitely that way, plus you can charter a boat and go to
smaller islands in the area, like Barbaretta and Cayos Cochinos, which
each have one small hotel, but are largely uninhabited.
