Hi we were on the Crown Princess on the august 25th sailing out of
Brooklyn NY .frist off it was great meeting all from the GSC2006 RTC
posters putting names to faces was great .Also to the Cruise critic
people who showed up at Shy Wakers !!

We were booked on the July 2nd cruise on the Crown Princess .But had to
cancel do to illness in the family .It turned out OK .On that cruise
they put the fuel in the wrong tank and didn"t go out untill 2am .There
for they missed Grand Turk .Witch i think was the best port of the
cruise.Brooklyn pier was really great getting on and off the ship .The
parking lot is right next to the ship.and safe !

OK we live in Weehawken NJ on the otherside of the river from NYC.on
friday the day of the cruise we lift our house just after rush our at
9:50 am and got to the peir, parked the car check our bags in .We had
Preferred check in so there was no waiting to get on the ship .We were
in our cabin just after 10:30 am .Got our bages at 12pm.We are Platinum
memmbers .The perks ar very good .Best was was free internet for the
week and Preferred check in witch is great .At time we got there ,there
was lines but we got right on ! It was our 6th cruise with them .

The ship
The Crown Princess is a new ship that just came out in june .It kinda
had some bad luck in her frist few months. But alest on our cruise she
seems to be in shipshap now ! But you could see some signs of the big
tilt ! The lounges seem much like the ones on the Grand Princess very
nice .The dinning rooms very nice .The pool deck well here's where i
think the Grand class of Princess ships are the best of any other class
of ships out today .There are 4 pool areas on the Crown Princess two
are aduits only the one at the back of the ship and the one in front of
the ship by the gym .The two in the center of the ship are for
everybody .And one is use for the movies under the stars .Witch is one
of the best things to come along in sometime .It's great to watch a
movie with the moon over head .there's free popcorn and they have
someone coming around selling candy .But if's a good movie you have to
get there early to get a lounge ! The Crown has one more deck then the
Grand dose .We felt it by the pools and saw more lines then on the
Grand but not that bad .Like most cruise ships if you want a lounge by
one of the pool areas you have to get there early. But you could get a
lounge on the deck above the pools .I love the openness of the decks on
the Crown alot of plases to walk around and find a place to read a good
book .The Gym was really good but is very crowed on seas days .

The Shows

We like the shows they were very good .They were 3 comedians on this
cruise All very good The Sarge Glan Hirsch and the best one who"s name
i forgot we saw at the Explorers lounge .Was very funny. The main show
room seen small but it"s the same size as the one on the Grand Princess
.But remmber she has another deck of cabins !

Our cabin

We had an outside cabin E102 all the way forward .We never book one
that far forward .But becouse we booked late thats all that was left !
And we wiil never book that far again .You felt the sea more in that
cabin .the cabin was big and very roomy it had everything we needed
.But the shower seem smaller then on the Grand !! Our cabin steward was
just great .

The food

We had anytime dinning .We wanted 2nd seating .But got anytime booked
late .Anytime was good .We only use the main dinning rooms 4 times on
this cruise .since we cruise alot we use the cruise more like a resort
vaction now .Meaning we don"t like to rush up for dinner everynight now
.And we just don't want a big meal every night too .The food we had in
the anytime dinning was good to very good .Service very good .We only
use anytime dinning on sea days and one formel night. We had the rest of
our meals in the Horizon court .Witch was hit or miss !! Some nights
the dinner were great other nights the food was very blend .But never
had a bad meal .just not great !! We eat when we wanted to .I would say
the Horizon count on the Crown has drop some it wasn"t as good as it
was on the Grand Princess.I would say The Horizon court is on par with
the Windjammer on RCCI now.Good not great !! One thing i think Carnival
is spending more money on food for Carnival Brand then on there other
brands in the Carnival family of cruises same go's for HAL.We saw it on
the Zuiderdam two !! The last few cruise we took on Carnival the food
was great !!

Ports of call

The ports for the week were Bermuda San Juan St Thomas and Grand Turk
.In Bermuda the ship docked at west end at the Dock yord .Unlike our 6
other cruise to Bermuda we only had a day there and it was on a sunday
when just about everything was clossed ! There was some shops opened at
the Dockyord .We did a little shopping and went to the beach near by
the ship .We had a good time .Most other times we were in Bermuda we
don"t get out there .One time we did by mopet .Liked it alot .San Jaun
was very hot .We did a little shopping then went back to the ship It
seem we had it to our selfs .We been here over 20 times on other
cruise.I think they should change it.And replace it with St Marten !!
StThomas i love it here .I got off the ship early and walk to town it
was also very hot .I love doing that walk in the mornning watching the
ships put in .Then went bact to the ship to get the Family up they like
speeling late .They didn"t want to go to the beach .We we had breckfast
and did some shoopping in town .They went back to the ship .I took the
tram witch is just outside the front gate where the cruise ships are .I
took it to the top .Sat there had a few beers got some great shots of
the ships that was in .The Diney Magic The Crown Princess & the
Carnival Valor .One sad note it was sad not seeing the Norway out in
the Horbor .She was always there on wed.It was a very clear and the
blusest skys !! .Grand Turk we loved it there .It was the best port for
the week .It's like Casa Maya .The same set up .A great pool area and
beach .just off the pier .We sat by the pool the hole day and used the
beach we had a blast there. My son"s toured the island .Not much there
now . Grand Turk is the kind of port we like now that and the out
islands .Been to just about every island down in the Caribbean meny
times over! Best port of the cruise .Most people we talked to said the
same thing .They should have giving us more time there .

The Weather for the cruise.

You couldn"t have ask for any better weather .It was great the hold
cruise .The hurican didn"t get in our way .Only the last day it was a
little choppy !!We were going by Cap Hatarass..Going on a Caribbean
cruise from NY is not like going from Miami your more in the Nort
Atlantic .So even on calm day it seems the ship moves more .

Would we do this cruise again yes .If we weren"t booked on the New
Liberty of the seas next august 25th.It was great doing a Caribbean
cruise from NY no driving to FLA or flying !! The kids programs seem to
be very good .But we have 2 teens 14 & 15 witch we find Princess not to
good for them .They and there friends seem very bored !! It will be the
last time we take them on Princess ! We also talk to a few young people
in there mid tweentys .They also said it was a dull cruise for them
.They should have gone on either Carnival or RCCI !! Princess is a more
layed back cruise .Me and my wife had a great time .We will be on the
Empress of the seas an 11 day southen Caribbean in Feb and before we go
on the Liberty of the seas in august .trying to get a reuion cruise
together with friends on the Regal Empress a 2 day cruise to Nassau !
enjoy

I am ON the same Crown Princess on a dofferemt cruise itinerary now,
but I don't intend to write any review of it. But this is a good
opportunity
to add a few comments and questions.

The Brooklyn pier got the unanimous BAD review from at least a dozen
psssengers I've talked to, coming from New York and New Jersey.

We took a cab directly from the EWR airport. I had thought of taking
a cab from the 42nd street Port Authorities Terminal, but because of
the
4 large pieces of luggage, decided to take the cab all the way.

The cab driver didn't have the slightest idea where the pier was, even
with our pre-printed directions from MapQuest. The route was the same
(whether from 42nd street OR from EWR via the Holland tunnel).

The street of Brooklyn had been described in at least a dozen
unmentionable ways. After we finally SAW the cruiseship, when
the cabbie had to back track about 3 miles, he had to stop three
times asking for direction (with the MapQuest sheets and map!)
before he finally found the pier!

For such a large ship (3100 capacity), the embarkation line was
faster than at most piers handling passengers of that size.

This is the THIRD day of the cruise and we are not even to Grand
Turk YET, and there was no delay. So, I guess the itinerary must have
been changed.

Same comedians on this cruise. I remembered Sarge from a back-to-back
cruise a year or so ago, and he might have remembered me sitting on the
front row (because of my hearing <G>). But he wasn't nearly as funny
this
time (though some of the audience were laughing their heads off no
matter
what he said :-)). So, I think I dozed off -- that was about the time
he
asked me a question (my wife said), and I said "huh?", and then in
response
to his question (he asked quite a few on the front row), "Where are you
from?", I muttered "Christmas Island" which was where I was less than
two
weeks before. :-) That really threw him off. He muttered back
something
about Christmas that had no relation to Christmas Island. :-) Later
I saw
him playing low stake at the roulette game, and apparently trying to
pick
up some chicks. :-))

We have a forward outside cabin too. Small compared even to the
Tahitian Princess ship (1/4 its size) of comparable cabin. But the
location is convenient ot the internet cafe (where I am NOW), the
atrium, and the casino. :-)

But it's a long walk (about one football field length) to the Lido
buffet.
So, I skipped all my breakfasts -- too much foo anyway.

The food is, compared to other Princeses and other ships, quite a bit
better. On the FIRST night, we had cocktail shrimps, Alaskan King
Crab, Alaskan snow crab, huge lobster claws, and other seafood,
just for the seafood portion of the buffet! I didn't even bother to
LOOK
at the meats, desserts, fruites, and other counters because the seafood
itself was more than a meal, and much better than the Sunday buffet
at Bellagios whether tiny little smidets of Alaskan King crab (my
favororite crab) is usually served.

Had "Captain's Lunch" today, which is usually on the last day of the
cruise
on other ships. Don't know the reason for that schedule.
>
> Ports of call

Haven't had one yet! :-)) But getting the herd of 3100 off the ship
on
Grand Cayman, on tenders, will probably take at least 3 hours. I have
the gears to dive, but don't think I'll do Grand Cayman, since I had
dived
there every year for about 15 years in a row.

Will probably just get on shore to check on the price of some items.
::-)

Ah, I see. Quite a different itinerary. We'll be at Grand Turk
tomorrow,
then Ocho RIo, then Grand Cayman, before moving down to Florida.

Nice review, Ken!
We did not see any signs of the *tilt* but then we were not really looking
for them.
You really had a long walk to go to the dining rooms and the buffet. We had
a stern balcony so it was close for us except the walk to the Princess
Theater. I thought the ship was beautiful and liked her much more than the
Caribbean Princess.

The dining room food and service were excellent...I have heard that the food
in the anytime dining rooms was not as good, which I cannot understand why,
as the menus are supposedly the same..

The food in Horizon Court was good, but we ate just our breakfasts and a few
lunches there..But I don't think that it was on par with the RCI
Windjammer..To me Horizon Court was a quite a few steps up. But then food is
subjective. I'll be able to compare Carnival when we take our group cruise
on the Conquest over Halloween. The last time that we were on the Conquest,
we rated her food at #1...But I think the Crown came really close to that
rating this time..we'll see in October!

Enjoy the Empress of the Seas cruise in February!...We had the Owner's Suite
on her with that same itinerary in Nov, 2004. It was very port intensive.

It was nice meeting you and putting a face on your posts!

I agree the ship was beautiful, loved the decor. What did you like
better then on the Caribbean Princess? We love the Grand, but then
went directly to the Crown.

Both the Conquest and the Crown were so good, it is hard to say which
gets the #1 award from us.

IMHO, MapQuest or any of the mapping programs are not the be-all
end-all to find your way around. They can be quite good, and they can
be awful. A person of my acquaintance tried to route a trip and he
wrote:

>To get from Bar Harbor to Portland, the software is sending us to Yarmouth Nova Scotia via the CAT ferry, then up the west side of NS, crossing over to Halifax where it turns back north. Goes up and around to New Brunswick, comes back to the US at Vanceboro ME, then on to Portland. A 750 mile route, not including the 3 hour ferry ride. Not bad for a trip that is actually 160 miles.

So basically whenever I want to go someplace, I don't rely on just one
set of directions.

In the case of the Broolyn Pier, it was much more the fault of the
Brooklyn
streets than MapQuest.

The Mapquest MAP showed a thick line down the East Side hwy, cross
the Brooklyn Bridge with and END at the intersection of the line after
the tunnel and I-278 (I think that was the interstate). It was so
transparent
that even an Ape could follow.

So, how was it that a professional cab driver went several miles past
the
intersection, came back, and still had trouble finding the Pier after
we
saw the SHIP, and the last lines of the detailed instructions were
something like the Battery tunnel road becomes the Summit road,
and it becomes another street all of that within 0.2 mile? There
was construction that could have thrown things off a bit, but the
culprit was the Broolyn streets!

The only streets that are worse marked and constructed that I know
are the streets in Cambridge, MA, where I spent a being a professor
at Harvard and M.I.T. My apartment was about half way between the
two, less than a mile from the Science center of M.I.T. I took 12
different ways to get back from that center to my apartment, the first
12 times, because each time I either made a wrong turn, or went
one block too far, and I had to practically go out of town and start
all over again.

My friend who had NEVER left Harvard since he was a student,
received all his degrees there and was a chaired professor in less
than 7 years because Harvard would not let him go, had these
words of wisdom to me when I asked why are so many of the streets
in Cambridge not marked? He said, "If you don't know how to get
from point A to point B, no street map or street names is going
to help you." I found that to be true. :-)

Okay. I can't top that one. But was it MapQuest? If it were, your
friend's brain could use a little tune up one way or another, because
MapQuest gives very precise mileage, down to 0.1 mile, so that
you would KNOW that it would not take several hundred miles to
go from the Newark airport to the Brooklyn Pier. :-) In fact, I
think
the estimate from 42nd street to the Pier was 7 miles and 16 minutes.

The actual mileage by the cab was more like 37 miles and 45 minutes.
It was a flat charge, so the excess miles and time was less painful
than if the charges had been metered.

Perhaps THAT's why between many points in Manhattan, the cabs
charge flat fares.

That wasn't the problem with the Brooklyn Pier, as seen above.

THAT is one that you are never going to live down, Sheree! And of course,

When you dropped out of the 4th grade, did they not get to the

Would it help you to say street planner's fault? Did you read my
comment about Cambridge, MA? Perhaps the city would not allow
morons like you to enter.

Mostly the decor, Sue..The only prettier part on the Caribbean Princess was
the whale or dolphin artwork or design the entire length of the elevator
shafts in the atrium. The service and food also seemed better on the Crown.
I also liked the brass rails on the stairways on the Crown as opposed to the
wooden ones on the Caribbean Princess. The wonderful bedding, pillows and
duvets on the Crown Princess were not what we had on the Caribbean Princess.
I've sent you some pics of the Caribbean Princess' Atrium area.

OK, decor isn't a deal breaker for us, we could even put up with
Carnival decor if that was the only problem(grin). The service and
food could be better on the Crown since it is a brand new ship. We
also loved the bedding on the Crown and when things settle down, I
want to see if we can buy some of those pillows.lol

After reading what everyone said about the Crown, I know there are
places we never saw. Despite our "beam" problems, I would like to sail
the Crown again some day and see the rest of the ship.

I didn't get the pictues from you yet, but no rush, esp on your
anniversary(grin).

Pond Scum Bob has found yet another "worshipper".

Everyone is out of step but Bobby.

Scroll down to picture #3 and remember that this picture is seven years old
and Bobby now has to be close to, if not 70.

I love beautiful atriums on ships..Guess that is why the Zenith did not
impress me..She is a nice size ship to take to Bermuda and her public areas
are nice but the lack of an atrium and her lack of cleanliness bothered me
when we took her..Hopefully they have remedied the cleanliness part because
I have a good friend taking her in October! She'll let me know!!

That shows crybaby Dickhead doesn't have monopoly in his worship of the

I think I will have to check my vast knowledge banks to see if "Pond Scum"
is kosher. Dickhead uses the term as if it were holy.

And I might add that Bob looks pretty damn good for a fellow of his age.
Must have something to do with the water. I am very impressed with his style
and by the way he likes you. Sort of like the way you and your daughter like
me.

I just took the time to view all the photos. Good stuff. Nothing but smiling
faces and people having a great time. Unlike some lonely old man standing on
the bow of some old rust bucket looking for pity. Holding a glass of water
cause it was free.

Good Job Bob
