Hi,

We're also on the September 9,2000 Lisbon to Rome itinerary and
would appreciate any news on the ship, the cities, the shore trips,
etc.

Thanks much,

C.C. Petersen

I've never done the cruise, but I will say that Lisbon and Rome are two
of my favorite tourist cities. Take a couple of days on each end if
you can. Lisbon is sort of run down looking, as Portugal is not nearly
as rich as say Spain, but it is really different and really cool IMHO
-- I loved it. And you actually can get REAL bargains, especially in
textiles and tiles, and they are fabulous. Better than you get in
France and half the price.

Rome is better known, another big swarming dirty noisy fabulous
Mediterranean city with great food and some of the best sights on the
planet. I love it.

In Lisbon, try to take the circular tram (streetcar) trip.

Rome is not on the coast. Most cruise ships dock at Civitavechia for Rome.
There is a train service to Rome - about every 40 minutes and it takes 40
minutes to one hour. The Italian rail company has an on-line time-table,
though I cannot remember the URL. The German rail timetable,
http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/db.s98/query.exe/en, also has the times for Italian
trains (in English).
