No trouble with engines, but we did get very friendly with the
anchors and bow thrusters. We alway knew when we were getting
into port!
After extensive analysis of the deck plans of SOS, I concluded the
forward most cabins on 2 deck were marginal, because of the anchor
and bow thruster noise. The cabins that back on the theaters might
also be marginal. All the cabins are too far forward to be bothered
by engine noise. In any event, there is a deck of crew cabins below
2 deck that should protect you from miscellaneous machinery noise
pretty well. None of the cabins appear to be beneath the galley, though
a few are beneath the dining room, and these might be marginal.

The cabin we had was very quiet. Heard complaints from some people in
forward cabins that the noise from the anchor chain almost scared them half
to death when the anchor was lowered or raised. Loud, but it didn't last
long. The air conditioner worked real well, no problems there.
Over all, I liked the ship but I did find it crowded at times. When they
converted her to do 3/4 night cruises, they added more 3rd and 4th berths to
some cabins. I'm sure that this didn't help the situation.
