I just found that the taxes on the Inspiration cruiseI
booked for November 23 have been lowered from 51.90/person to 33.83/person.
Cruise fare has gone up $30.00/person. I called Buycruises.com for a price
adjustment. They talked to Carnival. Carnival said I would have to rebook at
the higher fare to get lower tax cost. This did not make any sense to me.
Are these taxes capacity controlled? All the customer service supervisor
said was that the legal department was not allowing them to lower the taxes.
They gave me a credit of $60.00 I beleive-not the full amount, as a good
will jesture, after over one hour of a telephone conference call with
buycruises, carnival and myself. They also said they would not do another
price adjustment to my account. Sounds like Carnival really wanted to keep
the extra money. Supervisor said that the fares and the non commissionable
taxes are related. I have always heard that Cruise fares had nothing to do
with port charges or taxes. I also understood that if taxes and port charges
went up after booking, you could be charged these extra expenses. I think an
email to Bob Dickenson(is that right?) may be in order.

Has anyone else ever had this kind of problem?

If I figure this right, taxes went down a total of $36.14 for two and
cruise fare went up $60 a couple based on double occupancy. Now that
would mean your cruise is still $23.86 less than what you booked?
What am I missing here?

Hi,

FYI, taxes never go down. They only go up. Taxes are still currently $51.90.
Someone must have misquoted you.

Sorry John but you are incorrect. I spoke with Carnival directly and they
did acknowledge a decrease in the taxes.

Hi Greg,

There are four people in the cabin, a difference of $72.28 for the decrease
in tax charges. This is the adjustment I am looking for.

Lori,

I called Carnival myself and indeed the taxes have not gone down. Call again
and verify.

I have called them several times John. They have comfirmed that the tax has
been reduced from 51.90/person to 33.83/person. I don't know why you are
not getting the same numbers. Just goes to show it all depends on who you
talk to at Carnival.

I called for a price check last night and when they broke down the costs, they
gave me the same quote they gave Lori for taxes.

John,

Just called Carnival again for clearification of my problem. I did end up
getting the full amount of the price adjustment I was asking for. I was
alwo informed that the lower tax rate was indeed an error made by Carnival
and the taxes are back to the original amount when I booked. Denise at
Carnival, very helpful person, explained to me that it has always been
Carnivals position to require a rebook at going rates to receive any price
reduction in taxes. Didn't tell my why this is required, but said it has
always been so. Still a little confused as to why the fare and the taxes
are related, but I made out great in this deal, so I guess a few un-answered
questions are all right. Thanks for your interest in my problem.
