Okay, we've asked around at our local dept. stores and they don't have
water wallets and aren't sure what they are. Even Wal-mart was
clueless.

We read somewhere that water wallets were great for Stingray City or
any other water sports, so we'd like to check into getting some.
We're for sure going to do Stingray City and are hoping to get to do
the cave tubing (in Belize, I think) as well. Weather permitting, of
course.

Does anyone know about these things? What exactly are they and where
can ya get 'em?

Thanks for any help!
David, obviously not used to spending time in water

Wal-Mart. Zip-Lock baggies. Or, for the big spender. Freezer bags :-)

They sell them on board ship in the gift shop. On RCI they give them
away often as prizes in trivia contests etc.
They are pretty handy just about anywhere at shore. Stick your cash, two
credit cards, and seapass inside and hang it around your neck.

Check out a boat store or Sports Authority etc. You can also purchase them on a
ship- I won so many of these playing games on the ship, but they are like $6 on
the ship to buy do not pay that ridiculous amount of money for them !

I've always just used the plastic cases that you wear around your neck.
Every cruise ship I've been on sells these in the shop on board. They are
just big enough to hold ID's for a few people, a credit card and some
folding money. The work pretty good, unless you dive down more to 10 or 15
feet in which case they might leak a little. But the money dries out and
I've never found anyone who wouldn't accept it a little wet.

If you go to a dive shop you will have a little bit more of a selection.
The hard plastic cases come in 3 sizes. Depending how much you want to
carrry. The largest will hold money, cc and a pack of smokes. They
also have the soft super strength plastic (zip-lock) type bags. Haven't
used those so I have no idea how they work. But you will pay more on
the ship than at home. If your case leaks its probably because you have
sand or something around the seal. You have to keep the seal area very
clean in order to keep it waterproof.

Just like your snorkel mask and fins rinse your waterproof carrier off
with fresh water after use. Espically the seal. Salt water will break
down the seal very fast. That will also cause it to leak. I've had
mine for years with no problems.

I saw some water wallets at our local Walmart in the sporting goods
section...try again and ask someone in that department.

We bought ours at the local dive shop though and it's a hard waterproof case
that is much better then the ones I did see at Walmart.

If you want to buy before your cruise, here is a store run by a manufacturer
often sold in dive shops. http://www.witzprod.com/

It is my experiance that most of these work fairly well, unless you dive
down 10 feet or more, then most will leak due to the water pressure unless
the seal is clean and "just right". But as I said in another message this
really doesn't do any harm to your cruise card or even paper money. Money
dries just fine and I've never had a merchant not take my money because it's
a little damp. I also find that the smaller the case the better it seals
and the less it leaks. So I usually carry the very thin cases that are just
big enough to carry a couple cruise cards, a charge card with some cash
folded around them. Works just fine.

I've tried lots of different brands and other types of water wallets in the
past while snorkeling, and every one leaked at some point if I dive down
even occasionally 14 feet or so while snorkeling, most don't if I don't dive
down at all. There are some better quality more expensive small dive boxes
available but these are at least 2 or 3 times larger and a bit bulky to
carry around. Look at leisurepro.com, or anothr online dive shop, under
cases for a variety of these.

Hi. Water wallets are great. I have two -- a smallish one and a bigger one. I don't even take a purse with me when I go ashore anymore. I put my water wallet around my neck with a credit card, some bills in it, and my ship id and driver's license. It's so much better than taking a purse. I usually put a pair of shorts on over my bathing suit and have my snorkel gear in a backpack which includes my towel. After you snorkel or have fun at the beach, you can wander around town and shop without the hassle of digging into a purse every time you buy something. The water wallet hangs around your neck.
