Certainly che k out the websites like www.hertz.com, www.avis.com,
www.budget.com... you get the picture!!
Web searches for car rental/hire and the name of a place often work
quite well, surprisingly (?). I've even found places in reykjavik !

Don't rely on our guesses, but two tips which you might not have
thought of:
- Electronic Yellow Pages on http://www.eyp.co.uk/ (be sure to
search for 'car hire, self drive'), is a good way to search for
operators in a particular place
- Actually phone the branch of Budget or Avis in Colchester
direct, and ask if they can pick you up: don't rely on the word of a
central reservation office.
Also, if you aren't familiar with the geography of the area, you might
not be aware that Harwich has a rail station actually at the port and
there are regular trains to Colchester - so if necessary, getting to
Colchester won't be a big problem.

Best thing to do is to contact the airline you are flying home with. They have
contracted rates with the car hire firms.
They can also give you better information as to locations. I have saved myself
hundreds of dollars using BA's rental prices than getting my own.
