We are trying to decide b/w RC's Monarch or Sovereign of the Seas for a 4 d.
cruise with a group next Aug. I have heard that both ships were scheduled for
refurbishing sometime soon. Anyone know if they have been done yet and/or what
exactly "refurbishing" involves?
Thanks :)

Why book either of these ships since there are newer ones to enjoy. Besides
that, those 2 ships have some of the smallest staterooms. Try a ship on
Carnival for a 4 day cruise. The staterooms on the "Fantasy" class ships
(Imagination, Fantasy, Facination, Ectasy - all these do 4 days) are much
bigger. I've been on RC's Monarch, Sovereign and Enchantment. The Enchantment
were a bit larger but it doesn't do 4 day cruises. I avoided Carnival for a
long time and once I tried them I loved having a much bigger room and paying
quite a bit less than I did on RC. I also had some of my best cruises on
Carnival. I have the Victory booked for this November...but then RC's Explorer
for May 2002...because I just had to see this giant ship.

I do know about the small cabins, I have cruised on the Majesty before which is
essentially the same. We are having to choose b/w those two ships because it
is an organized group thing and those are the two being offered by the "people
in charge."

Ah.. but I've been on the Ecstasy, and I was extremely disappointed with the
poor quality of the food. I would love to try one of the newer, bigger
Carnival ships sometime, but I wouldn't do that class again.

I haven't been on the Explorer, but I was on the Voyager last August and
absolutely loved it.. actually, the whole family did.

Not sure about the Monarch, but the Sovereign just came out of drydock
on Oct. 14th. I'm not sure what was done, but maybe replacing of
carpets and necessary repairs and maintenance. I'll be aboard on the
28th, so I'll let you know how she is when I return.
