I am thinking about a cruise on the CostaRomantica in Feb 95--Western
Caribbean from Miami. I would like responses on:
--how is the ship? service, cabins, food, etc.
--how are Costa's shore excursions, etc? And what is good to see/do on
that Run?
--This is a special singles event. Price offered is $1074 cruise only,
including port taxes and some of the tips. Is this a good, or at least
reasonable, price? I live close to Miami, so I need not worry about the air.
--Over and above the group I would go with, can I expect a younger
(under 40) crowd than on some other lines? And what is the general
atmosphere I can expect?
--And anything else you might want to suggest.
As said, this is a special singles event. On my own, I would
probablypick another line based on price. So I would like some feedback
before I jump in.

Jeffrey,

I have not been on the Romantica, but I have been on the CostaClassica and
the CostaAllegra. The Classica is very similar to the Romantica, but the
Romantica is newer.

So here is my response and observation:

The Classica class ships are very elegant and modern. The furnishings are
contemporary. Leather and marble are everywhere on the ship. The are two
large (for cruise ships) pools and the gym is excellent.

The cabins on the new Costa ships are large compared to RCCL and NCL. The
cabin is equipped with a safe and T.V. Costa's service is very good. Costa
uses a cabin steward and an assistant steward so service is very prompt.

The food on the ships specialize naturally on Italian cusine. Pasta, pizza,
italian gelato to you heart's (or stomach's) content. Dining room entrees
are good as well, however I found the quality of the food better on the smaller
ship CostaAllegra. A must see is the midnight buffet that they have in the
kitchen or galley, this is a good way to take a tour of the kitchen!

Costa's shore excursions are on par with the other lines so there really
isn't anything special about their tours. They do however have a good
tour staff managing excursions. If you want more information on
W.Caribbean stops check the previous posts regarding Cayman Islands, Cozumel,
and Ocho Rios. The Romantica will probably stop in Serena Cay, their private
island. This is a nice beach stop in the Dominican Republic.

Costa tends to attract an older U.S. clientele, but in my past experience with
Costa, they also attract a younger european crowd. In my cruise last March,
almost half the passengers were Italians and Germans in the Classica.

Costa does a great job! You will no doubt have a great time with your
singles group.
Enjoy!
