Hi George,
Are there enough folks with late night munchies to cause the stock to
go up 8.8% today on this news?
Hmmm. <:+)

Four cruises and my room service orders were usually breakfast and the odd
snack, all out of those times.
Can see the point. I bet a lot of that food goes to waste. People half in
the bag think they can shovel down a buffet full o food, but dont get past
the first sandwich.
If I'm out late taking an overnight stroll, truthfully, If I do spot a tray
outside a door for the bussers, its normally at least half full of wasted
food.
Grab a piece o pizza or muffin on the way back from the bar.
It's a $3.95 fee for the entire order according to the post, so
I don't see that it will cut down on the amount of food being
ordered. If anything, people may order extra if they are upset
about the fee, figure they will get their money's worth.
Also, whether you can get stuff on your own depends on the ship.
The recent discussion about Grandeur here reminded me that on a
ship like that, there is no Promenade Cafe to get stuff from.
The only way to get that pizza or muffin (or chocolate chip
cookies, which I would want) is from room service.

I love it when a typo still works - a pie of pizza. ;)

The people who need room service are those confined to their rooms,
perhaps by illness. I tried room service a couple of times for
breakfast. They didn't come back and get the trays and it wasn't easy
to find a place to put the tray in the room. So we just quit doing
that.
On several cruises, we've had fruit in the room but they've stopped
that (or else it was a perk supplied by the TA). Some rooms (like on
NCL Jade and NCL Pearl) have a refrigerator that you can put stuff in
for later. Not on HAL or RCI GOTS. Just recently I've been taking
rolls or bread from the buffet to keep in the room.

You have a wrong conception of room service. While I rarely use it I
don't agree that the people who need it are those confined to their
rooms.
Most cabins have a table. But if you want them to come back and pick up
the tray right away call housekeeping. Some put the tray outside their
door (it will be gone fast if you do that) No reason to not do room
service because you are worried about the tray.

On the occasions when Mrs. Nonny or I have been confined to our cabin by
ship security, room service was always gratis. After all, we didn't
want to be confined to the cabin, but the Captain would tell us it was
for the peace of mind of the others. Now, are they saying we'll have to
pay extra for food, if so confined. Perhaps we should pack a Hickory
Farms salami, some crackers and a couple bottles of gin. . . just in case.
OTOH there are a few times when we've had a breakfast brought to the
cabin so we could sit on the balcony and glacier watch. That was fun,
but we generally prefer eating with others on the lido deck or dining room.

People who are confined to their rooms (like with norovirus) have to
have room service or they don't eat. Why do you think that they don't
need to do that?

The cabins we have been in do have a table but it is often smaller
than the tray. We have called to get the tray taken away and also put
it outside the door. But the trays was not taken and finally the
cabin steward had to take it away.
We just find it easier to go to the restaurant and get breakfast where
we will have enough space to eat and we are sure that the plates will
be removed in a timely manner.

Most people who use it are not confined to their room. Many use it for
breakfast. Newlyweds use it a lot. Children love to order pizza. There
are not many with norovirus and if one has it one probably does not eat
much.....

I called and spoke with our DSM and she said the reason they Did it
( or so was told) was because at those hours its alot of people who
have partaked of the Spirits they then bring the food and by the time
they get there they are passed out and not even answering the door.
there was alot of waste. OH I guess they do not want to give them
less booze to not pass out cause of the generating Money factor huh?
hahahaha So punish them for spending the $1400 at the bar!
And come on if you have Norovirus you do nt want to eat, BUT if your
going to eat while in there it would be at a normal time not after
midnight. and if you are sent to your room for a few days they do take
very good care of you....
