Whats been going on lately with all the sickness outbreaks on the ships.
I havent heard anything and now Im a little worried. Which ships were
they and do they have the problem resolved now?

Nothing is 'going on lately.' You are mis-informed about sickness outbreaks.
There was an unfortunate incident of bacterial infection on a RCCL ship
in Mexico that came from the water. You can get a copy of the Center for Disease
Control (CDC) monthly rating of all cruise ships calling at U.S. ports
and draw your own conclusions.

The Horizon had an outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease that was eventually
traced to bacteria growing on the hot tub water filter. The hot tubs
have been since closed on all Celebrity Cruise Line ships. The Nordic
Empress had an outbreak of shigalosis. Not sure if it has been tracked
down but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave the OK to
sail again after a thorough inspection. Not really enough to worry
about.

i've read that there was nothing negligent about the hot tub water
filter; it was a standard commercial model.

this was the viking serenade, *not* the nordic empress.

From what I heard, one of the ships had some cases of Legionnaire's Disease,
and more recently in the news, one ship had a sickness outbreak which they
traced back to a shipment of bad hot dogs.

I don't know what the update is on the Legionnaires cases, but I wouldn't
worry about it.

In the case of tye legionares disease that was, of course, the MV
Horizon. It was traced to the whirlpools and they are now Closed! The
Horizon is one of the best and cleanest ships afloat. I just returned
from sailing her Oct 8 to Bermuda. Between this incident and the Viking
Serenade it might appear that there is some problem. I believe it's just
a case of unfortante incidents occuring in close time frame. Think of all
the passengers on cruise ships. 4.5 million last year I believe. These
are the first recent incidents in my memory. I remeber one other,
American Hawaii food poisoning a few years ago. Consider the amount of
people fed the amount of meals, not surprising. Illness on ships is no
more likely than in your local resturant etc. Actually probably less
likely due to constant inspection.
