According to the P&O site, their ships have what seems to me to be a hybrid electricity supply, 220V
at 60 Hz. The UK uses 230V 50 Hz, the US 110V at 60 Hz. I'm in Australia where we use 240V at 50
Hz.
Anyway, I'm wondering how others from 50Hz countries have gotten by in regards to recharging on P&O
ships?
Thanks for any replies.
Look at your the labels on your laptop and camera power
supplies. You may find that they operate on anything in the range of
110 - 250 V, 50 or 60 Hz. The modern power supplies will handle just
about anything; the real challenge is getting the right darn plug
configuration. Hence all those "adapter" sets offered to travelers.
Beware of the non-transformer "power converters" however. Most
just produce a pulsating dc power, which is fine for heaters and
universal motors but can play havoc with modern electronics.
That said, everything except clocks will work reasonably well on
50 or 60 Hz power of the correct voltage.
Have a great trip,
John in LALALand (on the Left Coast)
check your power supply it may well be ready to accept the current you
mention.
