I'm looking for a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, preferably on the beach. Would
love to spend less than $100 per night, if possible. Any recommendations?
We're planning to stay for 2-nights prior to our cruise in Nov. Thanks in
advance for any input.

Nothing comes close to the Marriott Harbor Beach resort in Fort
Lauderdale. It is top dog all the way, right on the beach, and close to
the port. Regular prices are ridiculously high; but it is possible to
get a room at the price you have set in the month of November. Here is
what you do:

Wait until mid September or early October. Go to priceline.com and bid
for a resort in FLL beach area. Since this is the only resort class
hotel in the area that contracts with Priceline, you know you are
bidding on Harbor Beach. Start your bid at $85 to $90. If you are not
successful, keep bidding in increments of $5-10. You can bid again
right away by adding downtown FLL to your requested area. Because there
is no "resort" on priceline in this area, you are again bidding for the
Harbor Beach. If you are not successful, you can add another $5-10 and
bid right away by adding the airport area to your search (again, no
resort at the airport, so you are still bidding on Harbor Beach.

Godd luck Karen.

If you go this route, you may want to make a reservation at a hotel in the
normal way just in case the Priceline thing doesn't work out. You can
always cancel it if Priceline does work out, but if you wait until October
and Priceline laughs at you, you could be too late.

I like the Sheraton Yankee Clipper, but it's probably a bit higher then the
$100.

Ft Lauderdale not for the meek of wallet, we stayed in an older Doubletree a
couple of weeks ago and the rate was around $200 a night.

Most hotels are actually across the road (strip road runs along the beach)
from the sand & fun.

I would recommend booking into a Hampton Inn and booking a rental car. The
rental car companies drop off at the pier. Our cab ride from the cruise pier
to the airport was $16, and our cab fare from the airport to the strip was
$21. Next time we'll rent a car.

If you use Priceline you can get good deals at good hotels for under
$100 a night.
