Hi,
Can anyone help me please? I booked a category D, deck 6 veranda cabin
on the Splendour of the Seas. If anyone is familiar with these cabins,
can you tell me:
1. Is any part of the veranda private? Is wind a problem on these
verandas. The other verandas I have had on the sides of ships have been
surprisingly protected from the wind.
2. My cabin is the bottom row of balconies, in the center of the 9
cabins in the back(#6130). Will I be looking at the sea from my
balcony or the roof of the deck below? I can't find a picture that
clearly shows exactly what is below the balconies, but it looks like a
short, covered deck.
3. What are the partitions like? Is there any overhang?
4. Will I see the ocean as I sit on the balcony?
5. Is the railing solid or can you see through it?

Thank you in advance. I have spent a number of evenings looking for
pictures and searching the deja archives for this information. I can
still change to a veranda cabin on the side of the ship.

The verandah is partially "private". If you're at the outer reaches, those
above you can see you. Approximately 1/3-1/2 of your verandah will be
enclosed from above and at the sides. Additionally, if someone on either of
the adjacent verandahs decieed to lean out over the rail they can look in at
you. But you can do the same! :-)

It should provide a decent amount of protection from wind as long as you
dont expeience a "tailwind"; that being the prevailing breeze coming from
astern. In my experience, aft facing verandahs have always been the most
enjoyable.

You verndah will overlook the crew deck immediately below but will provide a
vista of the scenery and wake unfolding at the stern. Just be aware that you
can and will experience some vibration from the stern thrusters when
manouvering in and out of port. But it should be minimal. Legend and
Splendour are very quiet and smooth riding ships.

> 3. What are the partitions like? Is there any overhang?

The partitions are 3/4 enclosures (gaps at the top and bottom).

> 4. Will I see the ocean as I sit on the balcony?

You should be able to see the ocean.

> 5. Is the railing solid or can you see through it?

It's a steel framework with tinted glass.

IMO, stay with the rear facing verandah.

We had # 7128 just above you on the Legend last Jan. The space was huge, with a
chaise lounge and two chairs with a table. We had 4 couples out there when we
went thru Milford sound and the view was great. You can see both sides. Aft
cabins are perfect for balconies. There is some privacy but you can also visit
with your neighbors above. No wind at all. There will be a little of deck 5
below, but it's no big deal. Jim

Thank you ( and Thmpsn3605) for the information. I have held on to
the cabin. It seemed intuitive that these were very nice cabins with
especially large varandas. Now I know it for sure.

what about the aft cabin on the corner, what kind of view do you have
there? Sailing Nov 6,2000.
