I heard they might be implementing that type of tipping but I am not sure when.
Here is the bigger question.
I would feel funny, not being able to personally give to, say a waiter, a tip
in his hand, for all the personal service that he or she offered me during my
cruise.
I would think it also would be awkward to just say so-long at the farewell
dinner.
If it is a money carrying issue, you can always obtain money from the casino
from your Celebrity card.
I would be interested to hear what others have to say.

Again, we enjoy the "formal" dining and thanking those personally for attending
to us.

Is that true on the Zuiderdam ??? With their no tipping required policy ... If
the guy doing me a good job gets the extra $10 or $20 ... that's one thing ...
if his prorated share is $0.10 that's another ...

The end of this policy was announced but has not been implemented
fleet-wide. This is part of the "Signature of Excellence" program
announced on 11/10/03. I have reposted the relative portion of the

Going back to 1969 when my wife and I first cruised, and back where you had
breakfast on the last morning in the dining room with the same waiter that
had served every meal for however many days, I never remember noting any
indication that the waiter was pleased or displeased with what he had
received. Perhaps the fact that I didn't wear my final morning's coffee
should have suggested something.
In over 30 years of cruising I have never tipped the suggested amount,
always more.
My father-in-law always tipped at the beginning of a cruise, sort of "you
grease the wheel, and the train goes faster".
If HAL now will add the tips to your onboard account which is covered by a
credit card it will substantially reduce the amount of cash a passenger has
to carry.
