I am going to stop in St. Augustine, Florida on my way to Miami for a
cruise.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a hotel in St. Augustine for 2
nights?

Looking at the AAA book the Monterey Motel Inn looks like it is
located very close to the historic area, has free parking and
reasonable rates.

TIA

"The Hotel" in St. Augustine is now the Casa Monica. Originally a hotel it
wa for years the county courthouse and is now again a hotel.
There are other places in town but if I didn't go for the Monica I would
opt for one of the Comfort Inns or on the ocean just north of the city is a
Hampton Inn brand new.

Hi Bob and welcome to our wonderful and historic little city! The Monterey
is a very nice hotel that overlooks the bay itself and is directly downtown.
The Monson Motor Lodge is also right there almost beside it and also very
historical. THE hotel now is the recently renovated Casa Monica but it is
pricey. This hotel was originally built in the late 1880's and just recently
rebuilt into a hotel from being the old county courthouse. It is exquisite
and very classy! I think you too will fall in love with our city, I know my
wife and I did when we honeymooned here and immediately moved here because
of it's wonderful people and sights.

We go through and stay a night or 2 at St. Augustine every year on our
drive down to our cruise port.

We have always stayed at the Monterey Inn, the first time by chance and
each time thereafter by choice. Its not a Radisson resort by any means,
and it is by no means new or flashy, but it is clean and comfortable.
Its right in front of the bay so just a step across the street and you
have some nice benches to take in the view and unwind, and the fort is
just off to the front and left of those benches. Just a couple of
streets behind is a wonderful shopping area with individual shops and
some nice restaurants run from the old historical homes. Also, for us,
one of the best assets to us is we can pretty well walk to the majority
of the sights and shopping we're interested in.

I'd be glad to answer any questions I can if you care to email me. I'm
sure you'll enjoy St. Augustine. Ladymo

The Monterey is great! As stated before, it's not fancy, but it is right in the
heart of things and very comfortable.
Enjoy!
