Hello fellow ship enthusiasts,
Concept may very well become reality within the next month or so in
regards to the establishment of a Queen Mary volunteer restoration
group. In April of 1996, I was asked by Joseph Prevratil to come up with a
plan to incorporate voluteer efforts into many different areas of
operation aboard the RMS Queen Mary. After several meetings with Mr.
Prevratil and top directors, they are now willing to put this in motion.
While the volunteer group is still in the conceptual stages, their
interest and dedication towards making this a reality are great. The
volunteer members would have the opportunity to participate in activities
such as physical restoration of stored artifacts, renovation and
restoration of various parts of the ship including the first class
swimming pool area, organization and setup of interpretive displays,
archive inventory, and much more. The potential of such a group is
limitless.
In my next meeting, I would like to present the RMS Foundation with a list
of people who would be interested in membership and participation in this
volunteer group. It is important that they see there is indeed a public
interest in preserving and maintaining the ship. I believe this is a
tremendous opportunity for the public to become involved with the Queen
Mary in a manner that has never before been possible.
Please feel free to pass this message along to anyone whom you feel may be
interested in this. If you would like to become a member or would like to
recieve more information, e-mail or write to the following address. Any
input, comments, or suggestions are greatly appreciated as well.
