Stop on by, what can it hurt?
Hi Yvonne,
There is a topless area on every Carnival ship. This has been a
tradition since the first Carnival cruise ship. When Carnival started
they even had young ladies in the evening show that were in Vegas type
costumes. <g>

The deck up and to the front which I believe is called the Sun Deck is the
Topless optional deck. There are doors explalining this prior to entering
and children are not suppose to go in. On the many Carnival ships that I
have been on I don't recall having seen anybody totally nude up there.
Oops I mean I never go up there anyway. Argh argh argh

That is a disappointment -- no male would have a legitimate reason to go
up there, as males could sunbathe topless anywhere. So any male who
goes up there unaccompanied is automatically a voyeur -- too bad.

I'm thinking it's: 1. an urban legend.
or 2. somebody actually did it, but not with
Carnival's blessing.
(as in, we all know about the "Mile High Club" on airplanes, but no airline
has yet started sanctioning it or offering frequent flyer miles for
joining!)
However, we're taking our four kids on this boat in February, and I'm sure
my sons will be watching that deck VERY closely after reading your post.
We'll let you know!
Regards,
Kate Butler
Kate, this could motivate your sons to save their pennies and become
regular cruisers.
We forget that the rest of the world is not as puritanical as we
Americans. Topless and clothing optional are standard in many countries,
while here in America textile beaches are the standard. Many people
enjoy sunbathing topless and many actually pay to lay in waffle-irons to
get that all-over tan. Not that "I" would ever sunbathe topless, I'm
just saying there are many ladies who do enjoy that. Would I do that???

Hugs (but not when you're topless)

Dear Ermalee,
Would you like to be in charge of the list to get those hugs from
Becca if you don't need them? I am sure it wouldn't be too long since
the morals all the men here are unimpeachable.

Ermalee, I do have one "I can't believe I did that" photo I could email
to you, but only if you ask nicely.
But while I am on the GGC, I promise to act like a lady. I plan on
taking lessons from you, Ermalee; that's why I'm going, this is an
educational opportunity for me.

Actually it is a good place to go if the rest of the sunning space is
crowded. Not too many people up on the top optional deck. Always seemed to
me it was mostly cruise staff or entertainment personnel who were
exercising the option.

Hi Kate,
It is not an urban myth. <g> All Carnival ships have a topless area
where children are not allowed. I only go up there so I can give my
clients the excellent first hand knowlege that they have come to
depend on from me. <;+)
It's just topless my dear. Total nudity would probably get you
in trouble or at least very embarrassed. It is the deck that
surrounds the funnel and has canvas screening around the rails.
Camera's are not allowed. This is probably done to appease
those who are used to being topless in the Caribbean. It really
is no big deal and there aren't very many people that go up
there to gawk.
Jim
And no I'm not one of those that even bother to go up there.

Somehow I got this feeling that if Becca ever went on a Carnival ship,
she would be right up there on the topless deck. Right?

Not under my tutelage. Ermalee
I just emailed you a picture from my photo hall of shame, and I will
trust you to keep this between me and you, my sister-friend. Ermalee,
you can make me do the craziest things.

Consider the "lady" part scratched out. I always do what I am told.

Ermalee,

If memory serves, Becca has no picture posted on Dave's "Group
Cruise" webpage. Ermalee, you'd be doing a vast public service.

Becca, Becca, Becca... now are we not all family and friends here? And
you know we're all dying to see the photo. I feel slighted and hurt that
Ermalee is the only one to get it. Can't you share with all of us? In
fact, I believe your picture would be so special that we might get
permission from John Davis to run it in the newsgroup. And we do need
one for the Passenger List.
Does this mean you are now a reformer? Perish the thought.
>All Carnival ships have a topless area

Why are children not allowed there? That would seem to be the perfect
place for the mother of an infant to take said infant if she wishes to
nurse
and sunbathe at the same time.
Yes, perish the thought. There are other methods. Ermalee
Dang, and here I was waiting to "see" Becca post her photo on
the NG. Hey, how will we know who she is if she doesn't post
her photo? <VBG>

Yep, that's what I want to see on a cruise....
(maybe the infant shouldn't be out in the blazing sun???)
Then go on a nudist cruise... What I see of most people on a cruise is
enough...I DEFINATELY don't want to see them nude!!!
Most people need more clothes on cruises :-)
Where are you located? Do you have any great fams for travel agents? How
about topless agents? Pretty funny subject! I have been around the world
and it doesn't seem to be a problem elsewhere.
Happy cruising,
Michael
I have never been on the Carnival cruise line, but have been around the
world numerous times. Americans have been brought up to be uptight about
nudity. I agree with you regarding this subject. Do you travel alot?
Happy cruising,
Michael
p.s. This is the first time that I have ever used a chat room type area.
I got hooked up to my webTV a few weeks ago and am having fun
experiencing the WEB.
I have torn your picture to shreds. Please find another one to send to
Dave. And HURRY. Time is running out. Becca, was that picture from
the shoulders down (who snipped off the head?) really you??? Nah!
But you could send him one in a swim suit.
Ermalee
Hi Mike,
Okay buddy, first of all, this ain't no chat room. You have entered
another dimension, we have control of your television, a dimension of
time where the force is with you, a dimension of sight and sound and
fury signifying nothing.
You have entered the Usenet Zone; the newsgroup called
rec.travel.cruises from whose bourne no traveller ever wakes.
Welcome to the monkey house. We hope you enjoyed cruising with us.
(OK, who can recall all the references in the above? How about it
George?)

Jim, don't be encouraging Ermalee, I'll gladly send you a photo, but NOT
the one I sent Ermalee, that photo isn't all that, anyway.

Hi Dave,
I will just make any sacrifice necessary to provide information for my
wonderful clients. Besides that, I have toured an engine room
already. <vbg>
So that's what that in-cabin tv channel was!
Just kidding. It existed on the Jubilee, but was never used.
Of course 3 days of sub 70 degree weather back in Dec. might have
contributed to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a deck for nude sunbathing on the
Celebration -- I went on the Sensation last year, and one deck was
designated as "tops optional". There was a sign at the bottom of the
stars leading to the deck that indicatated that. It also said that no
cameras were allowed on that deck.

Ermalee, my server just got this message to me tonight, so sorry I'm so
late in responding; I wasn't ignoring you.
Now, why did you shred me, girlfriend, did I look that bad!!! The
person that took this photo only captured me from the nose down, he
didn't get my whole face.
I am holding off posting a picture on the GGC passenger page because
someone is stalking me (yes, you DOG, I am talking about YOU) and I
don't want him to have one more little thing to fixate on. He will get
on with his pathetic life, start harassing another defenseless woman and
leave me alone, then I will send Dave a picture.
Again, sorry this took so long, my ISP has been having trouble, maybe
this will be the end of it.
Hugs,
Becca
