My husband was told by someone who has been on the Carnival Celebration
that there is a deck at the very top that is for nude sunbathing! I find
this hard to believe. Can anyone out there confirm or deny this?

Hi Yvonne,

There is a topless area on every Carnival ship. This has been a
tradition since the first Carnival cruise ship. When Carnival started
they even had young ladies in the evening show that were in Vegas type
costumes. <g>

Hello,

The deck up and to the front which I believe is called the Sun Deck is the
Topless optional deck. There are doors explalining this prior to entering
and children are not suppose to go in. On the many Carnival ships that I
have been on I don't recall having seen anybody totally nude up there.
Oops I mean I never go up there anyway. Argh argh argh

Yes, there sure is. My husband and I were on the Celebration during
Thanksgiving, 1993 and while just strolling around on the upper, upper
deck, I belive in the aft, I happened upon this area with gate across
the entrance and the sign on the gate stated that this was a "clothing
optional" area. It was being used also, but I didn't really check it
out that closely. I always read the fine print and this time I decided
this wasn't a place for me, as I am too fair skinned and it was quite
sunny that day.

That is a disappointment -- no male would have a legitimate reason to go
up there, as males could sunbathe topless anywhere. So any male who
goes up there unaccompanied is automatically a voyeur -- too bad.

I'm thinking it's: 1. an urban legend.
or 2. somebody actually did it, but not with
Carnival's blessing.

(as in, we all know about the "Mile High Club" on airplanes, but no airline
has yet started sanctioning it or offering frequent flyer miles for
joining!)

However, we're taking our four kids on this boat in February, and I'm sure
my sons will be watching that deck VERY closely after reading your post.
We'll let you know!

Kate, this could motivate your sons to save their pennies and become
regular cruisers.

We forget that the rest of the world is not as puritanical as we
Americans. Topless and clothing optional are standard in many countries,
while here in America textile beaches are the standard. Many people
enjoy sunbathing topless and many actually pay to lay in waffle-irons to
get that all-over tan. Not that "I" would ever sunbathe topless, I'm
just saying there are many ladies who do enjoy that. Would I do that???

Actually it is a good place to go if the rest of the sunning space is
crowded. Not too many people up on the top optional deck. Always seemed to
me it was mostly cruise staff or entertainment personnel who were
exercising the option.

Hi Kate,

It is not an urban myth. <g> All Carnival ships have a topless area
where children are not allowed. I only go up there so I can give my
clients the excellent first hand knowlege that they have come to
depend on from me. <;+)

It's just topless my dear. Total nudity would probably get you
in trouble or at least very embarrassed. It is the deck that
surrounds the funnel and has canvas screening around the rails.
Camera's are not allowed. This is probably done to appease
those who are used to being topless in the Caribbean. It really
is no big deal and there aren't very many people that go up
there to gawk.
Jim

And no I'm not one of those that even bother to go up there.

In response to your question, there is a topless deck on at least two of
the carnival ships. Both ships I have been on have one. Whether or not
you can go totally nude is up to you. There are no camera's allowed up
there!

Then go on a nudist cruise... What I see of most people on a cruise is

Most people need more clothes on cruises :-)

Jim, don't be encouraging Ermalee, I'll gladly send you a photo, but NOT
the one I sent Ermalee, that photo isn't all that, anyway.

Hi Dave,

I will just make any sacrifice necessary to provide information for my
wonderful clients. Besides that, I have toured an engine room
already. <vbg>

So that's what that in-cabin tv channel was!

Just kidding. It existed on the Jubilee, but was never used.
Of course 3 days of sub 70 degree weather back in Dec. might have
contributed to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a deck for nude sunbathing on the
Celebration -- I went on the Sensation last year, and one deck was
designated as "tops optional". There was a sign at the bottom of the
stars leading to the deck that indicatated that. It also said that no
cameras were allowed on that deck.

From what I have seen, having sailed on both the Sensation and Destiny,
there are topless locations on all of Carnival's fleet.

It's not a nude deck, it's topless.

Ermalee, my server just got this message to me tonight, so sorry I'm so
late in responding; I wasn't ignoring you.

Now, why did you shred me, girlfriend, did I look that bad!!! The
person that took this photo only captured me from the nose down, he
didn't get my whole face.

I am holding off posting a picture on the GGC passenger page because
someone is stalking me (yes, you DOG, I am talking about YOU) and I
don't want him to have one more little thing to fixate on. He will get
on with his pathetic life, start harassing another defenseless woman and
leave me alone, then I will send Dave a picture.

Again, sorry this took so long, my ISP has been having trouble, maybe
this will be the end of it.

Hugs,
Becca
