In the past when Oceania Cruises passengers were found smoking in cabins, a
violation of the company's policy, they were given a polite warning to
cease, according to the line. But now, under a new policy, guests who are
caught smoking in cabins or on balconies will be notified they are to
disembark at the next port of call. That's apparently in response to the
fire on Star Princess. That fire is still under investigation but it appears
initially a passenger's cigarette may be the culprit. Oceania is the first
line to announce it will tighten up on smoking. For now others have not
changed their policies, and many lines do allow smoking in cabins, including
Princess Cruises. (SY)

Good, too bad walking the plank is out of style.

If you were caught snorting cocaine, the cruise lines, by law, but they
never had or would, place you under arrest, jail you and de"port" you. How
many cocaine sniffers burn down ships snorted the blow?
Smokers have no rights here and yet for decades they have gotten by with
publicly disastrous epidemiological consequences and the ongoing threat of
massive human casualty.
Lay out a rail, thank you.
