What will probably happen to my Med cruise payment and actual cruise in
August when (not if!) we go to war with Iraq? Do I get my money back or do
we just cruise the Caribbean for the 12 days I paid for or does Princess
just hold my money for some possible future cruise, provided that I live
through the nuclear fallout?
Princess refuses to answer these questions.
What did the cruise industry do with payments and cruises scheduled during
Desert Storm?
Princess won't answer that, either.
Even if you are not truly omnipotent, please give me your opinion on this.

I would have gotten travel insurance for a medeterranian cruise in this
environment.

If princess will not answer, I would cancel the cruise and rebook in a more
politically neutral area. You should be ablet to cancel an August cruise
without penalties.

If they cancel the cruise, you will no doubt get your money back. If they do
not and you choose not to sail, you will not. Even the terrorism clauses in the
insurance policies are very specific.

And I sincerely hope that the war does not happen.

Chances are, the ship will sail. There may be more security, but it will sail.

The question is now, do you want to go. The cruise line may or maynot give back
payment or allow for bookings in the future.
I do not know if travel insurance covers "war" as a loss.

A lot of people stopped their plans for Europe in the Yugoslav conflict,
the cruise lines just avoided the Adriatic. They aren't going to knowingly
sail into dangerous waters. If you are not cruising the Eastern Med you
won't even be close to the problem.

Hi QuiltShopHopper,
Don't worry about a thing - as long as you take insurance covering everything BUT wars.
Wife and I are booked for a Transatlantic cruise on Grand Princess, Sept 23
from London/Southampton to NYC.
Other posters are right, as long as everything else "works" like airlines, (we are on
bankrupt
USAirways to London, need I say more?) and New York and London are still OK,
we are cruising no matter what!

I don't see the connection. You are not sailing in the war zone, so the
ship will probably sail, and if you are not on it you will lose the money.
Even if you insure the trip, unless you take out the Love Boat Care from
Princess you will be covered only for a covered reason, and if the ship
sails then you won't get your money back. With the Princes insurance you
will get it as a credit for a future cruise for any reason you cancel
(though not 100%)

If the cruise was planned to be closer to the conflict that is one thing,
but it will probably just sail as usual.

If you are correct and there is nuclear fallout, the last thing we need to
be worried about is your cruise payment.

Yes, that is quite obvious.

Some people just can't see that was tongue in cheek.

Just forget it.

Since you are more than likely beyond the cancellation penalty phase at this
point, you can cancel for a full refund. If Princess decides to alter the
itinerary, they will contact you and you can either stay on the ship, book
an alternate cruise, or get a full refund. However, that window is very
small, Keep in mind it costs $450 million dollars to replace the larger
cruise ships, and even if they have insurance, it most likely doesn't cover
acts of war. Therefore, if they sniff the faintest hint of legitimate
danger, they will take that ship's stern and get it out of there.
