Ermalee,

Have a great cruise, will await your report! Got copy of fax today from
celebrity advising that the Galaxy arrives at 10 am and that no passengers
can go onboard until all passengers and luggage have cleared and ship is
prepared. It says that the earliest that happens is 2:30 pm. I would guess
that between inadequate port facilities being a container port, and new
security and immigration/customs, things have slowed immensely trying to
turn around a ship this size.

Thanks, George. One of our mini group told me that her TA daughter got the
same fax. We plan to leave Havre de Grace at around 1:30. Its maybe 45
minutes to the port.

In defense of my home port the message below is a bunch of hooey re: inadequate
port facilities. Don't forget that the ship does not dock until about 10 AM and
given a few hours to offload all of the luggage before any passengers can
disembark makes it close to noon before the first passenger leaves the ship.
Now compre this to ships leaving from Florida which generally return to home
port around 4 to 6 AM and after offloading the luggage I do not believe I have
ever seen disembarkation begin before 9AM. Seems about the same to me elapsed
time wise. I will admit that "shed 5(?)" is not the most modern passenger
facility going but if you do as suggested and plan on getting to the terminal
around 3PM you should get through there pretty quickly.

Frank, I don't think your home port needs a defense and it was not my
intention to mean my statement regarding the facilities being inadequate to
be degrading to Baltimore. Since Baltimore is a container port not a
passenger port it is was not geared for handling large passenger
embarkations and disembarkations, neither were customs, immigration and so
forth. That is just a fact not an insult. I think baltimore has done a good
job under circumstances that are tough. Yes the shed is not a great terminal
but it is understandably acceptable given the newsness of Baltimore becoming
a passenger port unexpectedly. The new rules of all passengers reporting to
immigration has been the big time delayer I would expect. When we sailed
last year on Zenith from Baltimore we arrived late and then each passenger
lined up to personally get checked against the manifest. We did not clear
the ship until after 2pm and awaiting passengers were parked on grass in
every corner of the immediate area, looked like a carnival was in town. We
were forced to carry our luggage about 1/2 a block and leave the wives with
same before boarding shuttles to get our cars. Then upon return we were not
allowed to drive up to where we had been directed to leave the wives and
luggage necessitating once again retrieving and carrying luggage back to
another location where we had been allowed to stop our cars. We were then
allowed to drive out right past where the wives and luggage had been. I am
sure that the use of buses carry both passengers and luggage is a better
deal than that. I hope anyway. Considering the galaxy is of much greater
size it just creates that much of a larger problem. I don't blame Baltimore
harbor it is just as it is right now.

Hi Dawn,
I was on the April 15th Galaxy Cruise. The first group of passengers strated
disembarkation at about 11:30 AM, just make sure the folks handling this
process on board now of your tight flight connection and you should make the
first group. From what I saw the vast majority of passengers drove to the port
and the earlier departing groups got off rather quickly once the process
started. Have a great cruise.

Thanks, Linda.
This is a new experience. Sleeping late in my own bed on sail away day.
Taking my time getting to the ship! Taking as many suitcases as I want for
the 11 day Eastern Caribbean cruise. Cruising from Baltimore is a fine idea.

Ain't it great! In theory, that's what I like about cruising from NY... but
the reality involves things like being able to get everything to the port
and that can actually be more complicated than getting to the airport!

Have a wonderful time!
