My wife are interested in taking the Eastern Mediterranean cruise on
Silversea's Silvershadow. It's a 40th birthday gift to each other. A
friend of ours said that this cruise line caters to a significantly older
crowd. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks.

We have had 3 fabulous cruises on Silver Wind and Silver Cloud. It is
simply the best cruise line for having a fabulous time. (We have also
cruised with Crystal and Seabourn). There is nothing stuffy about this
cruise line, the passengers we have found to be great. We are in our early
50's but so many passengers are much younger than us. I can't wait to go on
the Silver Shadow. With their all inclusive policy, there is now nothing to
touch their 6 star status.

We, (a 20-something and a 30-something) were just on the Silver Wind in May.
Although the demographics may vary on different itineraries (this was an
Eastern Med. cruise), the median age was 50's to 60's. Despite being, apart
from the crew, the youngest aboard, I didn't find this to be a particularly
"age-conscious" cruise.

Go for it! We were on the Silverwind last May for our 10th Ann doing the
eastern Med & are both in our early 40's. There were 3 couples younger
than us, most alot older, but as mentioned, it does not matter. Everyone
is very friendly and we ended up partying with a 70 year old & his early
50's wife - could barely keep up with them! Don't worry at all - you
will have a wonderful time & be spoiled for any other cruise line! Wish
I were going on the Silver Shadow this year....

P.S. Hi Bechi! Good to see your name...

It is predominantly the older age group but only because it is the crem de
la crem of cruiselines and not promoted through El Berratto travel shops. I
think you will enjoy the company of the crew: dancers, entertainers, bar
staff, officers and other social staff. The service is unrivalled. If you
are nightowls then you will be pretty much alone bar the staff and the
casino gamblers. If you run a business it is perfect for rubbing shoulders
with prospective suppliers/manufacturers/distributers etc. Present CEOs and
retired intelligent folk. Be prepared for 'the Jones' syndrome. Husband, buy
the wife some classy dresses. Wifey, buy hubby a bow tie and get some
extravagent business cards printed for him. PS Learn some Italian phrases to
impress the Captain so that you get an invite to his table!!
Ciao for now,
Carlos (Silversea Photographer 1995-1999)

Age is relative. Silverseas clientele is sufficiently upscale that your
chronological age won't matter . Social grace and social skill age is a
different matter.

We folks that cruise a bit need have two things: money and time. Therefore,
we tend to be older on average. I'm sure a luxury ship like the
Silvershadow the average age will probably be 60. But there will be a few
folks in their 40s on that ship. I'm 60 but I find charming and interesting
people of 80 and 40 on cruises. Age is not a big thing. If you prefer folks
in their 20s and 30s and want to dance and party you are on the wrong ship.
Very young folks tend to be on economy cruises in the Caribbean or the west
coast of Mexico out of LA. I'll wave at the Silvershadow from the
Renaissance R7 in the Eastern Mediterranean in November.
