I understand -- I was watching. I was just referring to the fact that it had
diminished into a name callling contest -- with the usual AOL derogatories.

the SPAMMER who targeted rtc using my e-mail address. Turns out it was
our old friend DENNIS HOY, returned again. And just as in all the other
times he's SPAMMED usenet, this time got him tossed off yet another
system. Unfortunately, there are plenty more for him to abuse, so he'll
almost certainly be back (and in the meantime, he'll continue to abuse
usenet and RTC through anonymous remailers like the COTSE system).
These asswipes are like the groundhog game we used to play as kids. You
swat one and another pops up! But you have to keep on swatting away.
Anyway, here is the letter I received from Starnet.

teleline.es news server. These attacks were logged @ 12:31 MET DST

The abuser that sent out these emails has been banned now from our
network with help of the adminstrator of the news server. The MET DST
log from the Toronto dialup had to be converted to our logfiles to help
find the appropriate user. Once this was done it was easy to take the
person off-line.
The username was taken out of our system @ 9:03 AM CST on September
4th.
No more abuse should come from this system.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask in regards
to
this issue. Thank you for your time.

ISP's in the Greater Toronto Area and if i get booted from them all,

you have to understand something, Mr. Lyman. although i am an old-school
user, i am not from the old-school of thought: i see no shame in losing
an account. i feel that if a business is willing to side with a
non-paying complainant and is willing to discipline or punish their own
customer, i am not interested in giving them my patronage in the first
place. so far, PSI.NET has been good to me -- i've been with them for
over two years without incident.

The objective of trolls is to get others to respond. The more anti-troll
the response, the more the trolls enjoy it because it validates their
need to respond to the "attack". Trolls try to rationalize their
actions by claiming their actions are legitimate attempts to expose
the actions of others, their negative personality traits and to punish
them for their offenses. Challenge the trolls and you are
assigned by them as having taken sides with the target and are
equally subject to attacks.
The current ones and their target of choice have spilled over from
another newsgroup. The target, who does give lots of good info,
tends to be pugnacious when challenged and will not back down.
He also feels duty bound to overwhelm and deal with anyone he
feels has violated Usenet etiquette or his own rules of conduct.
As you can see, this person makes a perfect target for the troll.
The nastier the war gets, the more people join in and take sides.
The flame war is on and this is what the trolls live for. The troll
can read the posts and say, "Ah, look what I've accomplished.
They are all posting because of me."
With the structure of Usenet trolls are inevitable. The best way to
deal with them is to ignore them and not give them the attention they
seek. With no attention they tend to leave to try to stir up things
elsewhere.

this sounds very appealing and reasonable. subpoena Stephen K. Gielda of
COTSE for all the logfiles from the "chuckk@*-cotse.com" poster. those
logs will exonerate both Dennis Hoy and myself from having made those
offensive postings. i implore you to notify Gielda as soon as you can
that you want those logs held because they turn over every seven days if
a request for a hold is not received.
on my end, i'll co-operate with PSI and notify them that if my logfiles
are requested, they won't need a subpoena to release them to any law
enforcement agency. if need be, i'll give written permission to release
my logfiles without a subpoena.

same IP address. therefore, c.lyman and bob_benbow are definitely the
same person posting under two different aliases.
to go a bit further, i checked where that IP lead to and here's the
information:

based on this new information, it's confirmed that chuck kohlenberg is
either using sock puppets to generate support for himself or his allies

going on the internet...Some people have web tv and a computer. Some
people don't need a computer. Some people can't afford a computer, but
does that make any of those people fools or make people with just
computers better? I would really like to know.

shop, what cruiseline they enjoy, what their occupation is, or even what
website they think is best. The nit-picking is just the way some of the
world is. I much prefer trying to be friendly and helpful and for those that

yep, picture in picture w/webtv is neat,
one eye is on tv portion, the other is surfing.
I sit at a pc all day at work, I have no need for Access, Excel and
Powerpoint
at home. And I detest MS Outlook.
The only thing I like about it is the animated dog, he's cute.
So I like webtv, because all I want it for is personal mail and surf
capability. From my recliner. Can't do that at work!
$1500.00 pc...$185.00 webtv plus. Hmm.
