Can anyone recommend a restaurant in that area that you're really enjoyed and
you think that a couple of out of town-ers might like also? We are not too fusy
about the type of food as long as it is well prepared.
Thank you in advance.

Ah, San Diego......on of my favorite cities! We really enjoyed The Fish
Market, which is located on Harbor Drive, right on the water and not
far from your hotel. The restaurant is actually located on the second
floor of a working fish market. The food was excellent and the view
absolutely spectacular! Enjoy and have a great trip!

I live just a few miles away from a Buca di Beppo that has been open for about
7 years. We ate there once. That was enough. The atmosphere is great, but I
couldn't say much for the food or service...

An interesting question, when in a strange town....go to a name you know or
go to someplace that the locals recommend.

I would go someplace new and interesting. Having someone recommend a
place helps, but I have no problem trying someplace that looks
interesting, even without a recommendation.

DG,
Did you eat in the establishment in Cherry Hill?
One of the good things about the place is that it didn't change when the
original owner sold the place.

Hello. I can't really recommend a restaurant in the Gas Lamp
District but I can HIGHLY recommend one in La Jolla, if you are so
inclined to go out of your way.
Geroge's at the Cove is my absolute favorite restaurant in the San
Diego area. It's quite a distance from the Downtown area but it is a
relatively short trip up the 5 freeway if you are renting a car.
The place is absolutely beautiful with 3 different dining levels.
There's upscale dining on the first floor, the second floor is more of
a casual bar scene and the top floor is outside dining with
spectacular views of the cove.
Here is a link: http://www.georgesatthecove.com
The food is great. Try the blace bean soup. It's not that pricey
of a restaurant either. More expensive than your typical dine-in
joint but not as expensive as, say Spago or something.
There's also a great Mexican restaurant right across the street
called Alfonso's. Good, cheap food and the best margaritas in town.
I hope you enjoy your trip to San Diego as it is one of my favorite
cities. Take care and enjoy your vacation.

My husband and I like to try new places everywhere we go ... We've often
asked cab drivers and hotel porters where their favorite places to go eat
are. Had some of our best meals that way. We preface it by saying "If you
were taking your best girl/wife out for a very special meal, where would you
take her if you really wanted to impress her?" They'll tell us some great
story about taking someone to a specific restaurant and what they ate, and
so on. We're also sure to tell them we're looking for places that aren't
your typical "tourist spots."
We like to try new things and have yet to be disappointed.

In 1999 we were met in San Diego by friends who then drove us from the
Sheraton Harbor View to the Gas Lamp area. We walked a while, and I hate to
keep bringing it up, but we travel with a "guide/hearing" dog, and had
dinner in a restaurant on the main drag which was not memorable enough to
remember.
In 2001 in San Francisco, a month after 9/11 we involved ourselves in the
program that collected money for the people who perished at Windows On The
World. The concierge at our hotel made us reservations at a local
participating restaurant, and while it was quite good, I cannot tell you the
name of the restaurant.
We will try to do better this time. <BG>

When I travel I like to eat the local food. The San Diego's "local food" is
Mexican. I would highly recommend Casa De Bandini (or Casa De Pico as an
alternative). Both restaurants are located in Old Town, just north of
downtown. It's a short taxi ride from your hotel.

In October it's still warm enough to eat outside at night. :-)
BTW, someone else recommended George's at the Cove. I second their
recommendation. George's is a popular restaurant in San Diego. (They have
a great view!) I would go with George's if you are looking for something a
bit more formal. Casa De Bandini is very casual.
