Industry standard is $1/per bag for a bell person, porter, or any
industry person who handles your bags. Naturally if an employee goes out
of his/her way for you I would hope that you would throw something extra
in? I firmly believe in 'fair' tipping to hospitality employees. If they
go the extra step they will be REWARDED by me...if not then they get the
minimum. Guess it's my past profession of being in hotel management for
over 12+ years and knew the salaries some of these employees
made...believe me they NEED gratuities! Like I used to tell my tipped
employee staffs..."remember that the service you provide to guests is
part of your paycheck!"

I have found that at most ports it is the luck of the draw. I have gotten
both excellent and terrible service.
The exception is New Orleans. The porters there are uniformed, friendly and
helpful... every time.

Just back from the Inspiration and New Orleans and I have to agree .....
porters are very friendly and helpful but then again most New Orleans
natives we came across were friendly and helpful :-)
Joe
(Liked the days in New Orleans better than the cruise's days at sea)

Joe, try a southern caribbean cruise from San Juan, you stop at a
different port every day. You won't get bored on those cruises.
Becca <-----my husband doesn't like sea days, either...
