How early should you book a cruise and why?

How early to book -

This really depends so much on your needs and wants.

If you are looking to cruise during the following times - you need to book early
to receive the lowest prices and the best availability

New Year's Eve cruises
Easter week cruises
Summer cruises in the Caribbean
Scandinavian/Russia cruises on Holland America
Thanksgiving week cruises

If you are very particular about the cabin placement and/or type on the ship,
you need to book early.

If you are very flexible about your dates of travel, are not real particular on
your cabin type or placement, and are flexible on your itinerary, there are
specials - that you do not have to book early.

Since "early" is a relative term - when I say early, I am thinking at least one
year before the sailing date. For New Year's Eve cruises, you need to book 12
to 18 months in advance.

Hope this helps...

It is never too early to book any cruise because up to 60 days prior
to sailing, you can get your deposit back.

We routinely book 1+ years in advance. We take 1-2 cruises every year,
and thus far have never had to cancel any.

Book your cruise as early as possible. Normally we book at least 6
months ahead. The best cabins in each category are selected first by
people who are very picky about the category or location of the cabin.
If you need special accomodations, such as handicapped-friendly
facilities, you need to book these cabins even earlier, as they are of
limited availability.

Yes indeed!! We just booked a Nov 8 cruise on the MS Destiny and we got the
very last Penthouse suite on the cruise. The good cabins go quickly.
"Good" may mean cheap as well. They go very quickly also :))

We have booked as far as a year in advance, mainly because we like the
time to anticipate!!!!! Also, we plan my time off from work in advance
and like to be sure we get the type cabin we want. Have booked one in
December a month ago!
