Does anyone have any experience with Commodore Cruises. They are
offering $ 498.00 pp/dbl on their 7 day cruise ex New Orleans.
I can't find any reviews in the cruise library.

Commodore is a low budget cruise line. I would recommend an
alternative as many of the major cruise lines are offering 7 day
cruises in a very close range of this price.
Best regards,

===========================
I just got off the 7 day cruise leaving N.O. on the Enchanted Isle. Ports were
Key West and Cozumel, but the rest of the cruises this year go to Cozumel,
Grand Cayman, and Montego Bay (forgive spelling). My husband and I had a very
good time. We had a lousy cabin steward (cabin 691), but we don't feel 1 cabin
steward should ruin your whole cruise -- so we just kept asking for the items
we needed and his lack of service was reflected in the tip we left.

The buffet in the Bistro was pretty good .. the food in the dining room was OK,
but I think the majority of us are all pretty spoiled now because as a society
we eat out so much. I know I wouldn't want to try to serve 1000 or more every
day (5 meals a day). Anyway, the midnight buffets were good and had fresh food
.. wonderful spells permeated the ship mostly between 8pm and 1am. (If you
don't like garlic, go hide .... I thought it was great!) I would not eat
breakfast in the dining room (we did ONLY once)... not good. Our waiter was
OK, but we kept having to remind our bus boy to fill our water glasses, bring
sweet & lo for the tea, etc. Stick to the buffet in the bistro for breakfast.
We had 1 lunch in dinning room. Enjoyed buffet in bistro rest of week much
better. However the waiters and busboys were nice and put on quite a show for
everyone a couple of nights. We had a GREAT table (36), second seating.

Activities were very good (if you go, say "hello" to Walter for me - he is the
cruise director): bingo, team trivia, scavenger hunt, horseracing, lectures
(we had a handwriting expert & one on financial stuff), trap shooting, ping
pong tournaments, Newlywed/not-so-newlywed game (my husband and I won - what a
hoot), pool games, bridge lessons & playing time, casino, basking in the sun
(pool was great), pool band was super (but that was their last cruise for a
while), nice piano bar singer (Georgia), comedian 2 nights (act was better 1st
night), a 3-girl 2-guy song & dance troupe that I thought were pretty good (it
wasn't Phantom, but that cost me $100 to see), etc.

We did our own excursions but I recommend you catch a cab in Cozumel and go to
Chacanab National Park early ($7 for cab ride, $5 to get into park). They have
lockers and igunas (bring a camera) and LOTS of fish. Take a zip lock bag and
bring bread from the ship. WOW!!! They have snorkel gear to rent, we have our
own. An underwater camera is a must. Absolutely beautiful. We had a 2nd day
on Cozumel and snorkeled right were the ship docked at the International Pier.
That is where the sunken plane is.

On Grand Cayman take the snorkel tour to stingray City. Sign up the minute you
get on board the ship. It will sell out first.

Anyway, I think you will have a very nice time. Mardi Gras night was fun, but
when we did the Mexican night, we were docked at Cozumel and very few people
participated. You will be at sea, so it will be fun.

For the price you have quoted --- it will be well worth it. We paid $559 +
port charges + transportation. We live in Memphis, so we took the train and
spent the night before in New Orleans. We really had a good time. Let us have
a report if you decide to go, I would like to know what you think of it.

Have Fun!

P.S. forgive my spelling

For future reference, Semester at Sea is not taking the Enchanted Seas
out of passenger service, it is merely changing the passengers and crew.
The ship will now carry (primarily) college students.
