Hi:
Slightly OT, but there are so many NJ readers here, I thought someone could
be of help.
We are spending a few days in NJ after our Voyager cruise next month.
Looking for a place we can park the loaded car for a weekday, take a train
into NYC, catch a matinee (we already have tix), catch an early dinner, then
train back to the car, getting back to the car no later than 9:00 PM. Our
day will be starting from Toms River, NJ. We want to be able to head west on
I-80, so not too far south.
Anyone have any suggestions.

Parking information for many of the New Jersey Transit stations can be found
here:

http://www.njtransit.com/sf_train_schedules_station_parking.jsp

I would call first to see if they can take people other then during rush
hour, for example some of the train stations in my area stop taking any
parkers that aren't monthly parkers from 7 am until noon, they are full at
7.

I am not familiar with any trains near I-80 but check the following links.

There's a Park and Ride on the Garden State Parkway near the Asbury Park
Rest Area. You can catch a bus to Manhattan from there.http:

to train station parking, if you are starting in Tom's River you may
want to look at Bay Head or Pt. Pleasant on the NJ North Coastal Line

Not sure I'm following your itinerary exactly. You're driving up from
Tom's River in the morning, going to NYC for a matinee in the
afternoon, followed by dinner and then heading west on 80 from there?
I'd drive up the Parkway to the Turnpike and park in either Jersey
City or Weehawken and take the ferry over to midtown. On the return,
take the tpke to 80 and you're on your way.

Be sure to stash everything in your trunk, wherever you end up
parking. I wouldn't leave anything tempting visible on a back seat, if
I were you.

Another option would be to take the Waterway Ferry into NYC. Parking is
available at the ferry.
Also, from Toms River you can take a NJ transit bus into NYC.That way you would
only have a short ride to the bus stop. I live in Manalapan, NJ and I take the
bus on Rt. 9 when I go into NYC.

Tomorrow, I'm going slightly further. I have a Fam trip to Beaches Boscabel,
the family Sandal's all-inclusive. I can't wait! I will be touring every
Sandal's in Ocho Rios. I can't wait to see Royal Plantation.

Personally, I would be very reluctant to leave a loaded car parked
anywhere in the NY metropolitan area, and I'm NOT a person who worries
much about that kind of thing.

Drive to the train station in Denville, NJ -- take train to NYC;
return --Denville is on Route 80 & the train station is as secure as you'll
find anywhere
