Here is a reply to my inquiry yesterday from Mike at Newsguy (formerly
Zippo). BTW, all seems to be well since yesterday (Saturday)
afternoon PST.

Hi Ray,

We hope you are starting to be able to access the service. We had a
blown
out primary 100mbps gateway, which closed all systems and services,
news,
mail, web to the outside world to any of our services running on CRL.

The outage began at approximately 3:49am PST and we were able to start
bringing services back up around 10:00amPST. Right now, we are in the
process of rebuilding route tables and checking out connections to all
servers from news to mail. Our office and remote lines were left for
last
making this the first message we were able to get through.

This is not a CRL issue, this is a Newsguy equipment problem. We
apologize
for the disruption in service and we will be posting information
regarding
time credits for those customers effected by the outage as soon as
everything is back up and running.

Aside from this, we've also been adding an additional front-end server
and
cpu upgrades the past couple of days, which may have provided for
brief
intermittent disruptions in accessing the service the past few days.
Once
today's outage is stabilized within the next few hours, you should
begin to
see improvement in performance with access from that point as the
result of
these upgrades.

I have been having lots of problems the last couple of weeks when trying to read my newsgroups....either the "server doesn't respond" or getting disconnected or messages from Outlook Express of "your news server has not responded in such and such time, etc. do you want to wait?"  Just wondering if anyone else has been having similar problems with newsguy or is this a problem with my internet provider?
