Does anybody remember airline slogans/jingles from the past (e.g. "Delta
is ready when you are..." "Western Airlines, the only way to fly....". I
am looking for as many from from now-defunct carriers as possible.
Specifically, did Pan American and Eastern have jingles? Ozark, National,
Capitol, Republic, etc. Can anyone help me here? The more the merrier!

I.m not sure of how the jingle went, but Ozark, just before they were
completely absorbed into TWA, used the slogan "Ozark flies your way."

A couple of TWA slogans included:

"Leading the way, TWA" (1980s)
"Today's TWA, Find out how good we really are" (late '80s)
"Up, up, and away, TWA" (late 1960s)

Pan Am had a great jingle, that was in place from at least as early as
1982, and possibly earlier: "You can't beat the experience... PanAm."
This music was well-integrated into both their music-on-hold, and into
the PA background music that was played during boarding and after
landing, at least on the 747, and later on the A300's and A310's. I
think that I heard that Leonard Bernstein was the composer. It was a
great song; I wish I could get hold of it.

Pan Am had the jingle of, "Pan Am, we fly the world the way the world wants to
fly" and Northwest had, "We give you half the world on Norwest Orient
Airlines".

BCAL had "I wish they all could be Caledonian Girls"

Wasn't Eastern's "Wings of Man"... or something to that effect (I seem to
remember it in Spanish... "Las Alas del Hombre"?

And Delta's, "You'll Love the Way We Fly"? Whew... talk about corney.

"UTA va ou vous revez d'aller"

approximated in English as

"UTA, jetways to your dreamlands"

Obviously, Pan American had several -
1. Pan Am, World's Most Experienced Airline
and
2. Pan Am - You call it the World. We call it home

Eastern - The Wings of Man

Braniff - Gets you there with Flying Colors

Hughes Airwest, late 1970s: "Top Banana in the West"
(Their planes were all yellow.)

PSA, until they were bought by USAir: "Catch our Smile"

seems to have forgotten (they flew between Southern and Northern
California, among other places): "Fly the Pacific Express-way"

I feel like an idiot remembering old airline commercials and jingles, but
here goes <grin>.....

Put the lock on the door, leave your office or the store
Tell your boss you want no more, leave your 4-on-the-floor
Get away, right away, like today...
For once in a lifetime, get in to this world
Pan Am makes the going great; Pan Am makes the going great.

There's a Europe many people never see, unless they live there.
Come along and spend a while, where the living's European style
It costs so little, so very little, on Pan Am
Pan Am makes the going great. Pan Am makes the going great.

Open up your eyes, hey look around you.
There's a lot of world you've got to see.
People, places, sights that will astound you...
You can go there, you can live your dream.
When we opened up the skys to travel
We opened up the great wide world for you to see.
Welcome to our world, welcome to our world.
Welcome to the world of Pan Am.
Welcome to the world of Pan Am....America's airline to the World.

There is a place where the sun comes up
bright with the promise of day
Coming on high, making love to the sky
It's only a daydream away
Get up, get up in the air
Get a piece of the world way up there
Pan Am has a place of its own
You call it the world....we call it home.

See the morning sun come sailing right by your window
As you gently lift off from the ground, now you're on your way
Settle back, enjoy yourself....a world of comfort will await you
Now your trip has just begun, and while you're up there having fun....
It's good to know you're on American...good to know you're on American...
Good to know you're on American....you're on American Airlines.

Come on down...on a Northeast Yellowbird.....
Northeast Yellowbirds....we fly more to the sun.
Northeast Yellowbirds....our service is number one.
Wow our seats are wide! Lots more room inside!
Food is cooked on board! Have your faith restored!
So just fly away....to the sky away....
Yellowbirds to the sun.
Fly Northeast Yellowbirds....Fly Northeast Yellowbirds (fade)

Delta Gets You There

Contrary to the tag line right after it came out, DL had a bunch of
aircraft problems that made the news.

Here are some others:

"Allegheny, the big airline....with the hometown touch"

"So fly the USA...on USAir"

"Yellowbird" (The song as a theme for Northeast Airlines)

"Eastern...America's Favorite Way to Fly"

"At Eastern..we have to earn our wings...every-day"

(Also "If you had wings")

Another one!

"You get the best of both worlds....on Northwest Orient...Airlines"

(I think they meant North America and Asia, but for a while I thought it
might be the here and after, or at least heaven and hell)

One of the best in the UK was a rendering of 'California Girls' to
'Caledonian Girls'. This was under the old BCAL banner and was pretty well
known at the time.

Another in the UK was for Air Canada. It showed a picture of an AC jet on
the apron with a FA putting out the milk bottles. It went on to say "So
good you dont want to get off"!
