It's been cancelled. If you like Space Police stuff, you should buy it now

I'll let some space gurus handle this one, but just go to TRU and look at
the displays. If you see some colors or a set that you like, buy it. The
"good" sets are the ones that appeal to you.

A good one to get into Space with, if you can a) find it and b) don't mind
the colors is the SPII Galactic Mediator. Lots of useful parts. The two big
drawbacks is that it's a $60 set, and it's kinda short on figures.
Speaking of the Deep Freeze Defender, since Todd brought it up-- I've
completed munging mine. It doesn't have _nearly_ as much wasted space
anymore, no gaping holes, etc.
The two front sled pods remained intact. The middle and tail end pods
remained reasonably intact in the upper sections (enough that you can still
tell it's originally a DFD), and I added to the bottoms. The middle area
lost its rocket (it's a spaceship. You want to put a satellite in orbit?
Go drop it in orbit!) and turned into a small command deck with a ramp
to the ground (watch your head. :) ), the deck is 10x4 usable area not
including the ramp. I left the top part openable for HOG logistics
purposes.
The back became air-tight. Unfortunately, I haven't designed a way to get
from the front section to the back section without exiting the ship yet;
that will probably be addressed in DFD++ 2.0. The little bitty ship launcher
is now a module; it can be removed through the upper cargo loading doors to
create an 18x10x9 cargo area, when it's there, there's still enough room
to put some small equipment, a set of fuel tanks, etc. The rear area also
houses the observation area; all the orange windows make good observation
domes, there's a few readout panels for the sensors located about the
aft area of the ship.
I find the coloring of the DFD makes it hard to expand; I'd liketo add
another module between the middle one and the aft one for crew quarters.
while I have a good number of white and blue pieces, there's very few white
wings, and I have no left-over trans-orange. The good thing is I don't
use these colors in my castles, so I can have a large ship built while
working on castle stuff. (the Galactic Mediator++ got assimilated. :) )
I'd compare it to my Galactic Mediator ++, but it's already in the spare
parts bin. :)

>Hey Derek, post the LEGO code again for Simon. I can't find my copy
>of it to mail it to him.
Actually, I already mailed it to him, but it probably didn't make it. So
here it is:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEGO Code version 1.1
Well, everyone else has their version of the Geek Code, so here's the LEGO
version. This is always a work in progress, so feel free to let me know if
you have any ideas. The ground rules--I wanted a code that was shorter than
others out there, so in that spirit, feel free to selectively pick and choose
which parts of the code you put in your sigfile. However, keep the order in
which the parts of the code are listed. Also, the prefix for the code will
be "LEGO:". I considered AFOL but decided on something that even the most
inner-child deprived person would understand. Also, don't worry if you don't
know how to use one of these codes; examples can be found throughout this
file. The Ratings for each part of the code consist of "+"s and "-"s, with
each additional "+" or "-" denoting the degree to which you like or dislike
that item. The descriptions of each part of the code should not be taken
literally; rather, the description given is a general statement as to your
feelings on each issue.
When describing yourself, it is sometimes desirable to have something to
identify a range of feelings. For Example:
/ indicates a range: S-/++ Sometimes S-, but usually S++
> indicates a desire: LS>+++ I want to sort pieces better
@ indicates no set opinion: A@ I don't have an opinion on auctions
Enough talk...here we go!
*THEMES*
Out of all the themes, there are some that you love, and some you love to
hate...so here's how to let everyone know which is which! Also, you'll
notice that the negative doesn't go too far down--it's all LEGO, after all.
Finally, many maniacs play with LEGO to build their own designs. This is
reflected in the Themes category with the MOC abbreviation.
Ratings (replace the "x" with relevant themes)--
x-- Why are they still selling this?
x- I wish this didn't take up as much shelf space
x Hmmmmm
x+ I own a few
x++ My NLSO/roommate/pet can pick out this theme in my collection
x+++ I buy this theme whenever I have money
x++++ They make other themes?
Place the themes in order of how much you like them, first to last. Place a
"c" after the theme if you're complete in it. Note that "complete" is a
rather vague term, you must use it at your discretion. That is, if you're
complete in every US set released in a certain line, go ahead and put a "c"
in your code. It's the thought that counts, really.
Everyone has a favorite set. Maybe it was the one you got when you were four
years old, maybe it's one you bought in an auction for $2,000. Simply put,
deep down inside, there's that one set that means the world to you. Don't
deny it. In the interest of space (and keeping our non-english friends in
mind) this section will just use the set number. To indicate your favorite
sets in each theme, place the set number in parentheses after the other
information for each theme. For example:
LEGO: TO+++c(554) (I'd love to see that person's collection)
Here's the themes--
DU DUPLO
FS Freestyle/Basic
FL Fabuland
HM Homemaker
BV Belville
TO Town
BO Boats
TR Train
PA Paradisa
SP Space
CA Castle
PI Pirate/Imperial Guard/Islander
AQ Aquazone
MT Model Team
TC Technic
MOC My Own Creations
Note that, in the interest of saving space, one can seperate themes that one
feels the same about by commas and then give them one generic rating. Ex:
LEGO: TR,PA,AQ,TC++
*NUMBER OF SETS*
If you care enough to count your instruction booklets (I do), you'll know
approximately how many sets you have (not all sets have instructions, you
know!). The "#" is followed by a variable number of "+" symbols, denoting
how many sets you own.
# 0-9
#+ 10-49
#++ 50-99
#+++ 100-149
#++++ 150-199
#+++++ 200-?
Our example so far:
LEGO: TO+++c(554) PA+(6403) TC+ FS+(1715) SP- #++++
*THE SPECIALIZED PIECE DEBATE*
A topic that occasionally rises on rtl is that of the specialized piece--for
example, BURPs, CRAPPs, single pieces that could be made from many pieces,
and ad nauseum. You know the drill by now.
S---- Why do they make minifigs? Talk about a specialized piece!
S--- All I buy are Freestyle sets and Buckets
S-- I _would_ have bought that set, but...
S- Is the CRAPP really necessary?
S Who gives a $%!#, it's all LEGO
S+ I use them without a second thought
S++ I've found all kinds of uses for those "specialized pieces!"
S+++ I scrounge up all of them I can find. I've built K2 out of BURPs.
S++++ I buy sets just for the specialized pieces, and throw the rest away.
*LEGO SORTING*
Do you sort your LEGO? If so, to what degree?
LS--- It's all in one big pile on the floor
LS-- I keep it in buckets, containers, shoeboxes--wherever it'll fit
LS- I sorted it once, it sucked
LS One of these days...
LS+ Regular bricks in one place, minifigs and the like segregated
LS++ It somehow...bothers...me when the bricks get out of place
LS+++ I have a seperate place for each different color minifig hand
*THE HOLES IN BAGS*
Why do _you_ think the baggies that our beloved LEGO comes in have holes in
them?
Hri Easier to rip with holes
Hrr More rip-resistant with holes
Hap If they didn't have holes, they would explode in airplanes!
Hsu So kiddies don't suffocate
Hal So the LEGO doesn't suffocate (it's alive!)
Hsa Think of how much money LEGO saves with the holes!
Hsp Think of how much money LEGO spends on the holes!
Hlp The bags weigh a LOT less with the holes (less plastic)
Haw OK, see, the holes let the air out, so it WEIGHS LESS!
H!? Who gives a rat's a**
*MEMBERSHIP IN A LEGO CLUB*
If you're a member of your respective country's LEGO club, indicate it with
an "M+" in your code.
*AUCTIONS*
A staple of rtl is the LEGO auction. Auctions are one way of making sure you
don't get the LEGO set you want.
A--- I unsubscribed from the group once 'cause of all the auctions
A-- Money-grubbing sales-mongering scum! I hate auctions!
A- Would you at least put 'Auction' in the title so I can killfile it?
A Enh.
A+ Auctions are fine. I may have even bought a set in one.
A++ I've sold a few items in an auction.
A+++ I spend oodles on auctions each year, and sell oodles to pay for it.
A++++ I financed my wedding via an auction
*AGE AND SEX*
For this category, since not everyone is still a young pup, you can just put
the year you were born instead of your age ;)
Actually, the real reason is ease--your age changes, while the year you were
born doesn't. Hence, less editing over time. It's simple--use a "YB" with
the last two numbers of the year, followed by "m" or "f." The final example:
LEGO: TO+++c(554) PA+(6403) TC+ FS+(1715) SP- #++++ S-/++ LS+ Hsu M+ YB63f

I do love the Aerial Intruder set. It's one of my fave spaceships.
Mostly for nostalgic reasons, but I love the way it looks - a huge
canopy made from a dome wall piece, two modular fighters on the
wings. It gets Oohs and Aaahs from my non-Lego friends.
I like the way, for the most part, the Blacktron II fighter pods
all work with each other. The ones on the Aerial Intruder can be
traded with the one on the front of the Allied Avenger, or the
one from the Spectral Starglider. And yet they are all different.
This is nifty, and better than the Space Police II "Let's make the
front of all our of our models look exactly the same!" idea. (Not
that those were modular, but they should have been.)
The big problem with the line is simply that, due to its name, it
suffers by comparision to the original Blacktron line. You look at
the Sub-Orbital Guardian and think 'gee that's a poor excuse for an
Alienator.' Etc.
But it's best not to let that ruin the line for you. It doesn't for me.
I think the line is spiffy and will jump to its defense once in a while.
It's the Rodney Dangerfield of LEGO space - it don't get no respect.
But regarding those minifigs ....
I turn them into Whitetron baddies, equal in menace to the original
Blacktron figures.
Turn the torso around so that the neon 'B' logo is hidden underneath
an air tank.
Put white arms, hands, legs, and helmet on the figure. Give the figure
a black visor, or, lacking black visors, use a mirrored Launch Command
visor. Viola! Whitetron. :)

I agree that the Spyrius figures don't please me all that much. I tend
to use them as spare bodyparts. Can't really place my finger on what
I don't like, without one in front of me. ... I definitely DO like the
fiendish face of one of the Spyrius figures - the one with the Charles
Manson eyes.
But I do like the Droid. Sure, his face is silly, but you can replace his
head with a black faceless head from a ghost if it really bothers you.
It doesn't matter on the ghost, since you can turn the head around where
you can't see any of the Droid face, and a black featureless head on the
Droid is a lot more unsettling than the 'blackface minstrel' robot
face. And his transparent helmet is simply "Droid!"
Might not be a good solution for you unless you have about 50 ghosts ...
How about the Unitron figures? Just as busy, but a better color
scheme. I love those grey arms, grey torsos, and yellow helmets.
Unfortunately, I tend to pull their arms off to give my peasants and a
few majistos grey arms.
Tell you what annoys me -- the current space minifigs package has two
Spyrius people (three, counting the droid), only one Unitron fig and one
IP fig, and no Space Police II figures. If they had taken out one
Spyrius guy and put in one Space Police guy, I'd buy a lot more of
that set.

Plus, the BTII color scheme seems to present a kinder, gentler
bad guy which makes it easier to accept that they all have that

Regretably, I have no BT stuff so I don't compare and contrast

"Everything you need to know is on the Internet.
You just can't find it." - Anonymous, but common
knowledge to anyone who's been there
Off the subject, does anyone besides me think that the Unitron
guy with the silver glasses is a cyborg?
Yes, it's true -- I'll plug this ship any time. I wouldn't say I'm
unbiased ... I'm pretty opinionated. <grin>
$50 is a fair price for a nice large out-of-production set (about 20
cents per piece, which is about as high as I'll go for some item that
I don't have a huge emotional investment in trying to acquire, but is
quite fair for an item that's getting hard to find) but it's definitely
at the upper range of what I've seen them auctioned off for. So if you
don't get any takers, try again with an offer for free shipping.
In addition to the little quoted snippet regarding the set, here's a few
more good points.
Aerial Intruder - 6981 BT2 - 251 pieces w/ 2 minifigs
This is the largest spaceship in the Blacktron II line. (It's not
huge, like a Deep Freeze Defender ... it's sort of a medium-large
craft. Bigger than the Star Hawk II or Saucer Centurion,)
Besides the fighter craft pods that dock on the main craft, you get two
little moon-rovers / jeeps that ride in the center cargo area. When you
lift the great big canopy cover, the cargo area tilts to become a ramp,
and the jeeps roll out. Nice design! For long flights, a pair of
robot arms lock the cargo canopy down.
You get a nice dome-wall piece (not a corner) with the Blacktron II logo.
In neon-yellow, a color to go nicely with the new Explorians sets which
have dome-pieces in solid white and transparent blue. So buy both of his
sets and get two of them. <grin> You can never have too many of these
dome-wall pieces to build BIG constructs. See if he'll sell you two
for $75. Or if he'll take a Forest Wench in trade. <grin x2>
In fact, this set would look GREAT made from transparent blue pieces instead
of neon yellow ones. Replace the big yellow piece with a solid white one or
a clear blue one, and replace the cockpit pieces with transparent blue
pieces from recent space sets or aquazone sets, and you'll have an
Explorians Aerial Intruder, or a Futuron Aerial Intruder.
BTW, I'd buy the box from one of these if someone was willing to sell one.
I accidentally crushed my old box in a recent move. So if boxes don't
matter to you, send me email and sell me one.

Ehh, I like those anti-freeze yellow pieces. Now those blacktron II
figures were pathetic, but I had no complaints about the color scheme.

Well, that's how the real Space Shuttle puts satellites in orbit so it makes
sense to optimize a rocket/spaceship for this purpose. Looking at the
rocket/spaceship size compared to those of the shuttle you should have some
clues about the planets frequented by DFD :)
As can you see, I think DFD's rocket launcher is a neat design feature. That's
not to say I aplaud your creativity in modifyin the ship, but don't discount
the ingenuity of LEGO's designers too quickly :)

I love to use both the anti-freeze and the trans-orange in my ships.
When building something mostly black, all the little bits (lasers,
running lights, etc) become very dull and dark if you use the prettier
trans red, green, blue, yellow, etc. The Flouresent bits are the only
ones that you can put against black and have them really look like
lights. Take a look at my DragonFly instructions. All the running
lights and search lights would look really bad if they were in urine
yellow and trans red.
