LEGO Racers(TM) Speeds Onto Store Shelves

Eagerly-awaited racing game for PC CD-ROM ships to
North American Retailers the week of August 23

ENFIELD, Conn., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Kids of all ages will soon get
the
chance to build, customize and race their own authentic LEGO(R) race
cars with
LEGO Racers, slated to speed onto North American store shelves the week
of
August 23. Featuring an advanced 3D hardware-only graphic engine and
authentic LEGO SYSTEM characters, LEGO Racers offers a high-quality game
experience for the whole family. LEGO Racers ships next week for PC CD-
ROM,
with versions for the Nintendo(R) 64 and PlayStation(R) game consoles
shipping
in late September.

"LEGO Racers is a high-quality racing game suitable for the young and
the
young at heart," says Gregg Sauter, North American Director of Sales &
Marketing, LEGO Media International. "We feel that combining the LEGO
values
of construction, imagination and creativity with an action-packed
racing game
will put LEGO Racers in the winner's circle."

LEGO Racers allows you to create and customize your LEGO car and driver,
then challenge up to five other popular LEGO characters (like Johnny
Thunder,
Gypsy Moth, Baron von Barron and Basil the Bat Lord) on 12 tracks based
on
LEGO SYSTEM Space, Pirates, Adventurers and Castle play themes. A
unique
power-up system provides players with numerous ways to gain the upper
hand,
while hidden shortcuts and secret pathways on each track will help you
defeat
your challengers. Once you've mastered the game, go head-to-head
against the
all-time LEGO racing champion: Rocket Racer.

I was on the betatest team for the game and can say that the target audience
(6-10 years) will enjoy it. Effectively it's just 'Mario Kart' for the PC,
albeit with the ability to build one's own vehicles and racers. The tracks
are entertaining, and some of the short-cuts require a bit of lateral
thinking to find (demolishing walls, etc.). I wouldn't buy it at full
price, but wait until the price comes down a bit
