A few days back someone posted something on how to remove paint from LEGO
bricks. I thought what a good idea. I have a lot of bricks from
FreeStyle sets, etc. with silly eyes, smiles and faces which I will
probably never use in a model. It would be nice to recycle them by
removing the paint.

My problem it when got around to trying it, I could not remember what
chemical the person said to use. I tried isopropyl alcohol to no great
affect. I tried acetone which seemed to affect the paint but it also
started to disolve the plastic.

I went back to see if I could find the article, but had no luck since I
could not remember who posted it and what thread it was in. I did a
search in Deja News and couldn't find it there. Thought it might be in
rec.toys.lego FAQ but alas it was not there either. I think I remember
seeing something about removing paint on someone website, but again I
could not remember whose.

So could someone please re-post the info on how to remove paint from LEGO
bricks. Also maybe this info could be included in the rec.toys.lego FAQ.

Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Well, I HAVE done this with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. It took a
little elbow grease, but the paint DID come off, and the brick appeared
undamaged.

Try it with a cotton swab and a lot of pressure. It should work.

Model railroaders use brake fluid to remove pant from plastic models. Test
this on a piece you can afford to mess up since it does not work with all
types of plastic.
