Hello all, here's LEGO code version .5
Please email or post any suggestions or improvements!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, everyone else has their version of the Geek Code, so here's the LEGO
version. This is always a work in progress, so feel free to let me know if
you have any ideas. The ground rules--I wanted a code that was shorter than
others out there, so in that spirit, feel free to selectively pick and choose
which parts of the code you put in your sigfile. However, keep the order in
which the parts of the code are listed. Also, the prefix for the code will
be "LEGO:". I considered AFOL but decided on something that even the most
inner-child deprived person would understand. Also, don't worry if you don't
know how to use one of these codes; examples can be found scattered around
this file.
*THEMES*
Out of all the themes, there are some that you love, and some you love to
hate...so here's how to let everyone know which is which! Also, you'll
notice that the negative doesn't go too far down--it's all LEGO, after all.
Ratings (replace the "x" with relevant themes)--
x-- Why are they still selling this?
x- I wish this didn't take up as much shelf space
x Hmmmmm
x+ I own a few
x++ My NLSO/roommate/pet can pick out this theme in my collection
x+++ I buy this theme whenever I have money
x++++ They make other themes?
Place a "1," "2," and "3" after your top three themes. Place a "c" after the
theme if you're complete in it. Example:
LEGO: TO+++1c (I'd love to see that person's collection--no, it's not me!)
Here's the themes--
DU DUPLO
FS Freestyle
FL Fabuland
HM Homemaker
BV Belville
TO Town
BO Boats
TR Train
PA Paradisa
SP Space
CA Castle
PI Pirate/Imperial Guard/Islander
AQ Aquazone
TC Technic
*NUMBER OF SETS*
If you care enough to count your instruction booklets (I do), you'll know
approximately how many sets you have (not all sets have instructions, you
know!). The "#" is followed by a variable number of "+" symbols, denoting
how many sets you own.
# 0-9
#+ 10-49
#++ 50-99
#+++ 100-149
#++++ 150-199
#+++++ 200-?
Our example so far:
LEGO: FS+ TO+++1c PA++2 SP- TC+3 #++++
*THE SPECIALIZED PIECE DEBATE*
A topic that occasionally rises on rtl is that of the specialized piece--for
example, BURPs, CRAPPs, single pieces that could be made from many pieces,
and ad nauseum. You know the drill by now.
S---- Why do they make minifigs? Talk about a specialized piece!
S--- All I buy are Freestyle sets and Buckets
S-- I _would_ have bought that set, but...
S- Is the CRAPP really necessary?
S Who gives a $%!#, it's all LEGO
S+ I use them without a second thought
S++ I've found all kinds of uses for those "specialized pieces!"
S+++ I scrounge up all of them I can find. I've built K2 out of BURPs.
S++++ I buy sets just for the specialized pieces, and throw the rest away.
*LEGO SORTING*
Do you sort your LEGO? If so, to what degree?
LS--- It's all in one big pile on the floor
LS-- I keep it in buckets, containers, shoeboxes--wherever it'll fit
LS- I sorted it once, it sucked
LS One of these days...
LS+ Regular bricks in one place, minifigs and the like segregated
LS++ It somehow...bothers...me when the bricks get out of place
LS+++ I have a seperate place for each different color minifig hand
*THE HOLES IN BAGS*
Why do _you_ think the baggies that our beloved LEGO comes in have holes in
them?
Hr Easier to rip with holes
Hnr More rip-resistant with holes
Hap If they didn't have holes, they would explode in airplanes!
Hs So kiddies don't suffocate
H? Who gives a rat's a**
*FAVORITE SET*
Everyone has a favorite set. Maybe it was the one you got when you were four
years old, maybe it's one you bought in an auction for $2,000. Simply put,
deep down inside, there's that one set that means the world to you. Don't
deny it. In the interest of space (and keeping our non-english friends in
mind) this section will just use the set number. The format is an "F"
followed by the set number. For example:
LEGO: FS+ TO+++1c PA++2 SP- TC+3 #++++ S-- F554 (wow, the '79 Exxon truck :)
*MEMBERSHIP IN A LEGO CLUB*
If you're a member of your respective country's LEGO club, indicate it with
an "M+" in your code.
*AGE AND SEX*
For this category, since not everyone is still a young pup, you can just put
the year you were born instead of your age ;)
Actually, the real reason is ease--your age changes, while the year you were
born doesn't. Hence, less editing over time. It's simple--use a "YB" with
the last two numbers of the year, followed by "m" or "f." The final example:
LEGO: FS+ TO+++1c PA++2 SP- TC+3 #++++ S-- LS++ Hs F554 M+ YB63f
Well, that's it for now. Hopefully I'll be getting more code soon!

Leaving things out is OK, it's only mixing up the order that would make you
a slacker. I think I addressed that in the intro, but maybe it's not clear
enough.

I like that idea. I was thinking of something like that, but was having
trouble making it look good. My first idea was:
LEGO:... F6009CA, 6833SP, 544TO
But I thought it looked funny. Since the Fave Theme is the meat and
potatoes of the code anyway, it makes sense to add the Fave Set to it as
well. So in v1.0, this will be added! Thanks Jeff!

OK, I'll see if I can come up with something good.

Duly noted, will be added

I couldn't remember how to identify waffling or indecision. I'll add
the "/" to the intro for such occasions.
>Thanks for coming up with this. It's fun!
Thank you!

YESSSSSSSSS!
Derek
All RIGHT! Another convert. I just love looking to see what people's
favorite sets are.
So, Minx, does this make 6277 (Imperial Trading Post) your all-time
favorite set? You like it more than the mondo pirate ships or the
Eldorado Fortress?

Hmmm, my all time favorite? geez that's like trying to pin down your all
time
favorite book or movie. I enjoy too many to really just choose one, but
it is definitely in my top 3. Huge playing space, lots of figs, love the
merchant boat. Eldorado's fortress comes close, but I never like the
angled single door on the upper level of el Dorado's fortress. If I
picked one of the mondo ships I'd have to decide which I like best of
SESvs BSB and that's too difficult (okay SES wins cuz of Errol Flynn
minifig).
As for all time favorite, well, I can't pick one cuz I'm still
discovering new gems, like the motorcycle repair shop which i love, or
the paramedic unit 6364. i never liked town much until this year. then
again i assembled and played with space and got into it for it's own sake
for a week at my mother's house. found i actually did like some space
sets, the ones with green windows, tho i was dismayed to read someone
else already did an emerald city with em. i figgered it would be perfect
to build and brag about, but now it would be anticlimactic.
Got another little gem, the old garbage truck, very neat and fun to play
with. S o many favorites not enough room in my geek code for em.

I've only seen pictures of 6022, but may try and assemble my own from new
parts soon. I did an approximation of the maiden's cart that evolved
into a 3 horse carriage for 2. turned out nicer than any carriage i have
seen from lego. tried to foto it for the bldg contest with no success.
I like 6261 too cute raft, nice design, very sturdy.

Hmm, so you noticed my rather silly choice for a favorite castle set.
:-) 6022 happens to have been my first castle set. I bought two of
them, years and years ago, forgot about them, and rediscovered them
a few months ago at my parents house. Alas, no instructions, so I
dare not take them apart. But for nostalgia's sake I put 6022 as my
fave for that post.
I wish I _DID_ have the instructions, having watched the bidding
reach $50 ($50! For a horse-drawn wagon with about 50 parts!)
about a month ago. I'd probably part with one of them for $50,
if I had the instructions .... Sheesh, that's a dollar a piece!
>I like 6261 too cute raft, nice design, very sturdy.
Yes, that one's nice, although I doubt I'll ever have it!
