Ahhh...opening doors, the mark of a true quality toy when I was younger.
Sigh...too expensive now, I guess.

I am not an avid MB collector, but while thumbing through the pegs
searching for some favorite castings I found something that I have not
seen on a MB since my childhood ... a METAL BASE. Yup, it was a BMW
300 series (sorry, didn't buy it so I don't know the exact model),
champagne in color. Metal body and metal base. Quite heavy. If you
want a racer, perhaps this is the next great winner!

Now I am sure that someone out there is itching to correct me by saying
that the John Deere Combine or some other arcane casting is all metal.
That's fine, go right ahead. Like I said, I don't study MB, and when
was the last time a MB automobile had a metal base?

Gee, I seem to remember MB castings without any Bases at all, (childhood
a long time ago and in a land far far away). Maybe it wasn't MB. Any
how funny that you brought that up John because that has been a question
I have been pondering for awhile. Why plastic and not any metal on MB?
Of course Hot Wheels seems to be getting away from metal bases also. I
wish that the FE series had all metal that would make them seem special.
