Where does Mattel get off thinking 90 bucks for 4 cars is an "OK" price? What
sets these 4 cars apart from any of the other Cool Collectibles or Adult
Collectibles cars that normally range from 8-10 bucks a car? I've seen the
set, and it sure is nice, all 4 cars are awesome. Not a sucker car in the
bunch, but why Mattel? Why? How much of this money is going to Mr. Leno so we
can have some nice diecast on our shelves? Is he really getting more than 50%
of the price of each car that you need to set the price so high? If so, why
put his name on it? Just mass produce like all the other cars from the 98 FE's
that were somebody else's creation and not give them credit, such as the Milk
Truck, 40 Ford, etc. Anybody else have anything to add?

While I havnt seen the JL set (Jay Leno) nor the MSRP, I damn near fell
over when you said 90.00 BUCKS.... GOOD LORD, are you serious? if thats
the case Ill pass............. I could obtain 12 CC for that kinda money
at 6.99 x 12 = 83.88 and buy a couple of peg warmers (to help the cause)
to boot. 90.00 BUCKS..... give me a break..........

I heard that they were limited to 15,000 or something around there. Can anynoe
clarify this for me?

THis is a HW Legends set that is limited to 10k. It is also $25 less
than the other legends sets, ie. Boyd's customs, Record Breakers, Snake
set, etc. This other sets are not stated as limited editions sets. The
Boyds set has been selling for at least 3 years now. These are not the
collectable cars or a collectable's line set. As stated by Mattel the
legends cars are made up of 25 separate pieces, and the collectable cars
are generally 10 pieces or less.
Theses cars are highly detailed and accurate for a 1/64 scale.

This is true , but personally I would rather keep my highly detailed
and accurate Andy Jacksons in my wallet. I would rather they brake the
set up into 1 0f 4 so I could chose the 1 or 2 that I prefer and
possibly spend 15 bucks, but 22.50 per......at that price Leno should at
least sign the box.

That would have been a nice addition, but then they probably would have
added even more $$$ to the price for his signature, even if it is
reproduced and not original.

As far as breaking the set this too would be nice, but they seem to
leave this up to the "sellers" on ebay. The cobra is listed on ebay now
item 142618933 Jay Leno Shelby Cobra Legends NEW'' for $17.00.

People are already busting these sets? selling them individual? I
wonder if they believe they can get more than 22.50 apiece, or if they
just wanted 1 car in the set and hope for the best with the rest.

Whewww, ya'll must have some serious retailer mark-up where your at! I've seen the
set at the hobby store near me and it's only 73.00. I still think that's WAYYYY to
much but 90.00 is outrageous!!

As I understand it, the other legends sets haven't sold out yet. Someone
commented that the Mattel reps at last years convention seemed surprised at
what sort of person collects hot wheels. T shirts and jeans, not sport
coats and slacks. Mattel doesn't know who their collectible market is.
They think because people pay $25 for a limited edition that they can put
out sets of LEs that run $100 to $130. I like the cool collectibles but I
haven't bothered with the Legends.

If you haven't held and touched a Hot Wheels Legends car yet, you're
missing a lot! Rather than buy 6 so-called LE's (like the Jiffy Lube,
Full Grid, Hill's, etc.) for $120+, or 6 TH's (yecchh!) for $120, I'd
rather have 4 Legends for the same price. They're more well crafted,
precision scaled, and have beau coup of details.

Check out some of the Legends pictures I've posted to
<alt.binaries.toy-cars> and you'll agree.

P.S. I'll have to update my web page someday to includes those
Legends pics...

He's right. If you have a chance to buy even one loose Legends series car,
do it. They are the best quality you'll ever find. I love my three
different sets, and am waiting patiently for the right time to get some
more.

Another collector and I split the cost of a set and I got the Jag and the
Stang. Awesome is the only word to describe these cars.

$90 bucks isn't even Mattels price, it's $100.00. That's what Full Grim
is charging. $90.00 seems like a bargain to me. The legends cars are
some of the most detailed 1/64 scale cars around. Pull up the engine
compartment on these and look inside. The Shelby Mustang has chromed
cross beams, you can see the spark plug wires on the Cobra. Too bad
they aren't carded. At 10,000 and this level of detail they would sell
for what the 95 TH's are going for!

Actually, it's great that they aren't carded! That way you can admire
the detail up close...
