The day could have been better, so I'm blowin' off steam.

1) If there's one thing I can't stand, it's boxes with labels that won't peel
off easily. When I send out a box, I like it to be neat and clean. It just
drives me nuts when the box I'm using has labels and stickers that won't tear
off without leaving gobs of paper behind. Let me tell ya, you ain't seen anal
until you've seen me use Goo-Gone to remove a sticker from a packing box. ;)
(No, I haven't done this ... yet.) Oh, man, and UPS labels are the worst.

2) Simpsons. It boggles my mind. How can it be that nobody has picked up
this license and run to black-ink galore with it? We have one line, made by
Mattel in 1990 and consisting of only six figures. What IS the problem here?
Why don't we have a line of 50+ characters? What ... the head honchos at
Mattel, or wherever, don't think it will sell? What are they, nuts?!?! The
Simpsons might be the funniest, (and certainly the most consistently good)
cartoon of all time! Springfield is over-populated with terrific characters!
I'd buy them all.

Billy (tomorrow will probably be better, but I *still* won't find Simpsons at
TRU -- and that just ain't right.)

I'd love a Comic Book Guy from a Simpsons line. And maybe a Nerds three-pack
from the Homer goes to College episode.

wow.
I love getting the boxes that have been around the RTAF world and back
again. I think I once got one with about 7 addresses on it. I thought
that was neat.

Absolutely. I think a lot of us would. I KNOW I would. One of each
character. That's all I need. They could do it so well, make them
nice, and bam, instant success.

Well, considering the last Simpsons line(which looked nice) tanked, I think
they might be fearful of doing it again. Who knows, maybe it would do better
now considering its longevity.

Here's the problem I see arising from a Simpsons line; for my example I'll
pick on Apu. Would you rather have: 1)An Apu figure all by itself 2)An Apu
figure that *only* came with a Kwik-E-Mart playset? 3)Apu all by himself and
a *different* Apu with the Kwik-E-Mart (KEM) (Nude-E-Mart variant? ;-)) 4)
Single carded Apu and KEM Playset Apu that look exactly alike? 5)Single Apu
and a KEM with *no* figure? 6) None of the above?

It's a tricky decision..Who gets packed with the play sets? Who gets a card
all to himself? Would you buy Comic Store Guy for $5.99 or would you want the
store, too?

A new, expanded Simpsons line needs to be done, the only problem I
really see is licensing.

The "problems" you mention I could easily live with. I don't care if
I have to buy playsets to get the figures, I don't care if I have to
buy the playsets on their own. I don't care if there are 15 versions
of Bart/Homer/Apu, etc. I just want the figures! I'll buy them, I
promise!

Please, someone, MAC, ReSaurus, someone
pick up this line and do it justice.

Thanks.

for me, carded all the way. See, I'm not much for playsets- I don't
realy have room for them, so I pass on 9/10 of them. But I would be
quick to buy every Simpsons character as single carded figures, no
problem. I'd be quickest to buy Milhouse (c'mon, I named one of my
cats Milhouse- I love the character) and Ralph. if you think about
it, Ralph Wiggum might be the funniest character when it comes to
one-liners in the whole bunch.

I'd honesty be a completist to no end with these figures.

This Flintstone person of the 60's still enjoys watching the Flintstones.
(I've always enjoyed "The Honeymooners", as well.)

Sounds like the way Kenner is dealing with the Star Wars license. I
really think the Simpsons could be as big or even bigger than Star
Wars. The line failed the first time because the show was too new, and
the characters were not as developed as they are now. Also the show was
mainly about Bart in the early seasons. Now that there are many more
characters with a history and a bigger focus on Homer, a line of toys
would really sell. I know I would probably abandon Star Wars and collect
Simpsons if a company commited to making all the characters.

I have been watching the Simpsons since day one. I'll be the first to
admit that every episode is not outstanding, but which show produces a
gem every week? In every Simpsons episode there is always a few good
chuckles, and you really need to be up on topical culture.

I can't wait to see Groenigs new show Futurama. From what little I've
read it sounds like this will be another show I'll be addicted to.

The thing is, the Simpsons is past its peak--it's still a great show, but will it
ever make the cover of Time or Newsweek? Now, factor in the delay from the time the
license is sold until the toys hit the stores--another, what, year? Two? More? As
cool as the Beavis and Butt-Head figures are, how much better would they have sold
two or three years ago?

I know it takes a while to develop these toys, but it seems to me that it's too long,
and the continual flood of "Past their Prime," toys seems to prove this. I can't
believe Venom toys are selling as well as they were five years ago, but Toy Biz
continues to pump 'em out.

It would be nice if they could jump on the popularity bandwagon when the license is
truly hot, guaranteeing big sales and possibly extending the life of the line. I
mean, do we really ever think there will be more Beavis and Butt-Head toys, at least
as deep into the mythos as Star Wars or Star Trek figure lines went?

I would have to disagree about the Simpsons being past their prime.
Granted a line of toys would have been timed better, say 4 years ago,
but I still think the Simpsons can go on for many more years as a show.

The Beavis and Butt-Head figures are very limited. There are what 3 or 4
other characters from that show worthwhile (Daria, the hippie teacher,
Stuart). They really don't have the same appeal to me. They are a one
trick pony. Granted they were amusing, but it got old fast. The Simpsons
on the other hand are able to weave topical elements and put neat spins
on things. There are probably 20 characters that they can easily do,
that would be wanted by folks. The playsets would be great. I would love
to have the Aliens in their saucer, with Homer, from the Monkey Paw
Halloween episode.

I also think you will see the Simpsons on the cover of Time and
Newsweek.

The Star Wars figures sell and you could say they are technically past
their prime. The Trilogy releases caused a new spurt in sales, but they
were revived a good 12 years after the last movie was released. It is a
nostalgia thing. Also there is constantly new collectors coming into a
line late, or once they've grown and have expendable cash.

The Speed Racer figures are selling and they are definitely past their
so called prime.

I really believe the Simpsons will sell. As an example there is a market
for animation cels from the show. Granted cel collecting is a niche
market, but at the prices these go for there has to be an interest in
them, in order for the studios to release them and galleries to resell
them. They are pricey, but people still collect them.

hmmm, probably. But I think there is still enough of a following for
the Simpsons. I actually time a lot of my in house (non-gym) workouts
with the Simpsons, just so I have something good to watch on TV, at
least for an hour.

I don't think there are that many Venom toys, and that Venom line last
year _didn't_ seem to sell that well. Even Bride, who I liked, until
I saw you could only pose her as if she REALLY had to pee, pretty much
still hangs about on the pegs.

People don't want to take the risk, I suppose. I think there are more
than enough people that want Simpsons toys.

As, I think it was Billy, said, the line, when it first came out, was
too new. The characters didn't have as much behind them as they do
now. We now know all of them, to a much greater extent. Back in
1990, aside from the fact that I was 13, I didn't know who they were,
aside from Bart, who was the "don't have a cow, man", "au contraire
mon fraire" guy (apologies to anyone who knows French.) The show
hadn't had some of it's best episodes yet. That's why it tanked,
though I'm not sure I agree with that, since I remember buying Bart
Simpson shirts in JC Penney with my sisters.

*shrug*
Anyway, I still think it would work. The Simpsons are much more far
reaching than Beavis and Butthead, and they also reach a much wider
audience, both by merit of quality of humour, and by not being
exclusively on cable.

I agree. The Simpsons have a much broader appeal than B&B. And how much
more could really do with B&B anyway. There is really only Stewart, Mr
Andersona nd Todd to add tot he list. On the other hand, the Simpsons
offer us a universe of characters that is truely deeper than Star Wars
when you remove figs like B'Mar Monk and others that were ont he screen
for 3 seconds and no one actually knew anything about.

I would certainly be one of the people out there buy every Simpsons figure
if someone would pick up the line (ReSaurrus, are you listening?)

The larger things should be cardboard (store itself, counter, shelves) but the
accessories would be plastic (squishee machine, clear doors for the cooler,

And KrustyLu Studios, and the box factory next door. Also, Lionel
Hutz's "I Can't Believe It's A Law Firm!" And the Try 'N Save.

I've got a can of Duff in the fridge!

I don't know if it was in the news in the US, but a few years ago,
a brewery in Adelaide, Australia produced a line of beer called
'Duff'. The label was pretty similar to what you see on the Simpsons.

Not too long after they started selling it, the lawyers from Fox came
and made them withdraw it. I bought a few cans before that happened.

Since then, cans of Duff have become a real hot collector item -
thousands of dollars for an opened case, a hundred dollars for an
unopened can.

My SO drank a couple of cans (he said it was pretty bad), but there is
still an unopened one in the back of the fridge - I expect it will
stay that way.

No way! McFarlane should make them, then they'd be hunched over and
their necks would look all strained. They'd all have a black wash and
iffy paint jobs and there could be a "party" Lisa. Each figure would
have a gold, silver, and blue variety, as well as a repaint. Cosmic
Marge won't even pretend to be able to stand up, and Ninja Homer would
be in a special deluxe case and only available through one K-Mart in
Litchfield, Nebraska.

I say the best way to sell these would be in 2-3 packs(2 packs for larger
characters, 3 packs for smaller ones). It would eliminate pegwarmers. Sure,
some of these 2-packs suck, but imagine-

Homer/Marge
Bart/Lisa/Maggie
Grampa/Jasper
Krusty/Sideshow Mel/Mr. Teeny the cigar smoking chimp(definate buy for me)
Patty/Selma
Sideshow Bob/Cecil
Cletus/Eileen(definate buy)
Nelson/Milhouse/Martin
Kearney/Jimbo/Dolph
Ralph Wiggum/Cheif Wiggum
Smithers/Burns
Lenny/Carl
Disco Stu/Comic Store Guy(who WOULDN'T buy these two?)
Ned/Maude Flanders
Tod/Rod Flanders
Apu/Sanjay
Bartman/Radioactive Man/Fallout Boy
Lunchlady Doris/Groundskeeper Willie
Reverend/Mrs. Lovejoy
Luigi/Bee Guy(bowl for the stereotypes)
many more, of course...

Also, I'd like the Simpson's house playset(big, w/ Bart, Lisa, and Maggie's
rooms, Homer and Marge's room, living room, and kitchen. Skip the attic and
basement, give me Bart's Treehouse and we'll call it even.

Moe's Tavern(w/phone, barstools, and dank)
School, Powerplant, etc..

Also, a Treehouse of Horror line, w/ Hugo, Jack-in-the-box Homer, the aliens,
the gremlin, zombie Flanders, Homer Kong, etc.

Yes!! With little floaty goldfish in Stu's platforms! And well, the Comic Store
Guy would just be plain cool.

I'd really like to see a Nerds three-pack too, with the three nerds from the
episode where Homer goes back to college.

Hey, the Elvis wedding is reserved for me and Troma, thank you very
much. The divorce settlement is already decided: I get his lucha
masks, and he gets my loose Sable figure, which I had to buy in a two
pack.

Liberace. I have this sticker, from an old zine, that has a picture of
him, and says "LIBERACE LOVES ME" on it. I've always wanted to
re-print it on sticker paper, but it's nested on my record player.

I already told you, you can't beat me. No way. Even if you are
roughly a foot and a few inches taller than I am.

Well, I've come to accept it, now that I looked in the mirror and saw myself
grinning like Edge. It was horrible, I cried, but then I thought "At least I'm
not on an Aaron Spelling show".
