Cafe de Colombia Wakeboard World Championships
Altamonte Springs, Florida
Sunday, October 19

Canada's Jeremy Kovak captured the Cafe de Colombia Wakeboard World
Championships today in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Kovak scored 22,030
points to win his first ever world title.

Kovak hit his "slowball" maneuver for his final trick of his run
solidifying a terrific performance to put him over the top. The 16-year-old
phenom Parks Bonifay finished second with 21,573 points. This was the
second straight year Bonifay took second at the worlds.

Shaun Murray took third with 20,770 points and Brannan Johnson, appearing
in his first ever world championship as a pro, finished a very respectable
fourth with 20,070 points.

Defending champion Dean Lavelle took finished ninth while the 1997 pro tour
champion Darin Shapiro fell on a trick and finished 14th. Shapiro did win a
championship though. He took the pro expression session championship just
nipping Bonifay and Lavelle.

In the pro women's division, 15-year-old Tara Hamilton won her first ever
world title scoring 15,198 points. Dana Preble finished second.

Other division winners included: Cathy Williams in amateur women; Christy
Smith in junior women; Mike Rosenbrantz in masters; Gerry Nunn in Men II;
Gordy Bubolz in Men I; Roi Francois in boys; and Orlando native Ryan Wolfe
took first in Junior Men scored 18,603 points.

In the Sea Doo Team Challenge, Shapiro and Murray combined to beat Kovak
and Bonifay 166.5 points to 158 points.
