I've got a question to add to this are most inboard motors reverse rotation
from cars?

I have a 1989 Mastercraft ProStar 190 with a Ford 351 engine. It
currently has 320 hours on it. I was looking into getting a new 1998
ProStar 190 with the newer Chevy motor that produces 308 horses. I am
going to keep my 1989 ProStar, however, I would like to swap the Ford
motor out to a Chevy motor. I'd like to know if I could convert a car
Chevy 350 Tuned Port Injection into a marine 350 TPI for this boat? If
I can, what parts would I need, if I pulled this motor out of a donor
vehicle? Would I need a different transmission, exhaust system, and
such? Will I be able to use my existing Ford marine parts? If it is
not possible, how about a complete 1998 LT-1 motor that you have in
some of your 1998 Mastercraft boats? How much would a complete LT-1
engine run?

Can I use a 4 bladed prop on my 1989 boat? Some dealers in my area do
not recommend it. I'd like your opinion on this.

Thanks!

Don't do it !!!! The list of marinized components and what is necessary
to install them is long and most of your Ford parts will not fit on a
Chevy. Besides you would be much better rebuilding your 351 than
replacing it with a Chevy. Have you just decided to swear off all
things Ford ???

More hole shot, smoother, better speed holding ability, lower top end,
but since I have never seen one on a 1987-1990 ProStar hull I don't know
what it would do to the wake. It will affect your wake in some way; my
old 1981 Supreme improved.

Bascially, yes. I am aware I can't use Ford parts on a Chevy, but what
about keeping the transmission but using a Chevy bellhousing? Has
anyone heard of Arizona Speed and Marine?

James

P.S. Yes, I'm swearing off all Fords. (sorry Ford lovers).

I just like Chevies. Some men like blonde women, some like brunettes,
while others prefer redheads. Their choice. I like Chevy, my choice.

I just put a four blade "OJ" prop on my 89 PROSTAR . The difference
coming out of the hole and setting up for the course is very noticeable.
The improved accelleration, improved tracking through the course, and
holding power through a tight turn is worth the investment. The wake feels
a little softer and the rooster tail is a little smaller. I purchased the
prop through my local MC dealership. The dealership is having trouble
keeping the props in stock and they highly recommended it for my boat.

I'm only disappointed in my boat's starter that quite last night. :-(

Too bad, if you were nearer I'd be encouraging you in this so I could
snarf up a (relatively) low hours motor (-:

Reg {I dunno, 1600 and something on a '90 Nautique with Ford 351. Still
running strong, but a SPARE engine would be nice to have around}
