Anyone have a source for defective/blemished wakeboard blanks so I can
fab up one of those wakeboard bench seats?

Where abouts are you?

We are in Australia, and we manufacture wooden wakeboards. The generally
retail for $450 blank (others with similar performance retail for $850
blank).
We may be able to have a look around for a second, and do a good price for
you.

Depending on were you are in the world, there are plenty of people you could
try.

My first board was a blem purchased through Wiley's, but it was still pretty
expensive for use as a bench seat, IMO. I think it was about 30% savings or
so over a non-blemished board. A defective board might be the better route,
although I'd probably look for a very used/dated board in the classifieds.
It would probably be less expensive, even with bindings than a blemished
one.

Just a thought.

Tom,

For someone whom has expertise in so many areas of this forum I am
surprised that you could not answer this question yourself. Unlike many
people who take part in this newsgroup, you live within walking distance
of a fully stocked water-ski/wakeboard pro-shop. Besides having about 700
new wakeboards in stock (and a couple hundred slaloms) I have quite a
collection of "bandsaw" boards as the factorys call them (or as some
southern mail-order outfits call them "cosmetic blems") and could probably
part with a couple for your bench. Of course I am trying to get rich from
this so your price will range from free ($0.00 Cdn or USD, nil, zilch) to
$225 cdn for a complete bench includes two wakeboards, legs, bolts and a
firm handshake. Unfortunately on the free boards there will be no
negotiation and you will have to admit to all readers here that you did in
fact pay the full retail asking price. You will also have to pick up your
boards in my shop which like my boat is constructed using some wood. That
is a bit scary I know, but it is only 30 years old (the shop) and is
almost fully encased in wallboard and paint and has not rotted out yet.
Call or come over and we will see what we can find for you.

Cheers

John

Call the manufacturers & ask, Tom. We've made about a hundred benches
over the years, usually around boat show season. All the boards were
picked up by just asking various employees & they had to mark them as
defective by drilling out a hole where the fins go. Most of them were
delaminating, missing inserts, screwed up graphics or warranty
returns.
