Friday Summary:

Florida's own Zane Schwenk lived up to his number one seed at the Cafe
de Colombia Water Ski Tour and Sea Doo Wakeboard Series today at Cranes
Roost Park in Altamonte Springs.
Schwenk from nearby Cypress Gardens scored 20,338 points keeping him
the number one seed for tomorrow's wakeboarding competition.
 "I didn't think about keeping the top spot all weekend. I was more
concerned about just making it in," said Schwenk. "I really don't like going
last, which the number one seed has to do."
Canada's Jeremy Kovak took second with 19,680. Thomas Horrell from
Winter Haven took third.
Orlando wakeboarders who make the cut included Shawn Murray and Dean
Lavelle.
Among those missing the top-10 cut were defending Wakeboard World
Champion Mike Weddington and former world champ and Orlando native Scott
Byerly.

Saturday Summary:

Orlando native Carl Roberge put on a show at today's semi-finals at the
Cafe de Colombia Water Ski Tour in Altamonte Springs.
Roberge seeded number one in jumping waited until the final jump of the
day and soared 203 feet to finish first in today's competition. Australia's
Bruce Neville finished second with a jump of 191 feet.
Roberge also finished second in the slalom competition rounding 4 buoys
at 38 off. Andy Mapple took the top spot with 3 at 39 off.
In the finals of the Wakeboarding Expression Session, Canada's Jeremy
Kovak took the championship with 3,750 points.

Sunday Summary:

Hometown favorite and defending champion Carl Roberge waited until the
final jump of the day at the Cafe de Colombia Water Ski Tour and Sea Doo
Wakeboard Series to take the jump title.
Roberge soared 203 feet topping Australia's Bruce Neville's jump of
197. This win follows last year's win in Orlando which began Roberge march
to the championship.
Italian star Andrea Alessi was injured today as he crashed in his jump
attempt. Alessi was taken to Altamonte Springs hospital. Early reports
indicate a dislocated left hip.
In the slalom competition, Orlando's Wade Cox survived a charge by Andy
Mapple and won the title. Cox rounded 2.25 buoys at 39 off just nipping
Mapple's 2 @ 39. Cox lives in Chuluota, Florida.
In Wakeboarding, Dean Lavelle won his first ever tour stop with 19,628
points. 14-year old Parks Bonifay took second with 19,442. That was also a
career high for Bonnifay.
A crowd of 7,600 people attending the event at Cranes Roost Park in
Altamonte Springs. The next stop on the Cafe de Colombia Water Ski Tour is
in High Point, North Carolina, May 17,18,19.

Wow! Kris can still get it done! When I was, I'd guess, 15 (that's 23
years ago, folks!) I had a poster on my bedroom wall that declared "Kris
LaPoint breaks world record on his Maherajah ski!". I don't know how old
Kris is, but to be at the top of any sport for that long is just flat
amazing.
