Any of you out there ever ski behind a Jetski? How was it? I am
condering the purchase of a personal watercraft of some sort which will
be used mostly for running around aimlessly, but may also pull the
occasional skier if it's worth it. If you have skied behind on of these
creatures, was it slalom or double? How about wakeboards, tubes, and
hydroslides? Did you pull the boat around too much?

My friend and I used his Sea Doo GTX all last summer for this very thing
-- easier to haul around, more maneuverable (not forgetting the obvious
differences between it and a boat, however --> power). Skiing,
wakeboarding, tubing, we did all of these on the thing without any
problems. If you primarily want to water ski and stuff, I wouldn't buy a
PWC. But, if you really want to fly around the water, and do some skiing,
etc. in addition, the PWC may be the thing to get. It's the most
versatile, easy to haul and store... And better on gas.

Its pretty boring wakeboarding behind a PWC.
Get a boat. Besides after the first month, the thrill of a PWC is gone.

Yes, i have skied behind a jetski for 2 years now. I learned to slalom,
wakeboard, and even barefoot behind it!! I had the Polaris SLT750, then
the SLTX. We now have a mastercraft ski boat (just bought it, never tried
it). The jetskis are very good for tubing, the best for a wild ride!!!!!!
You can whip the tuber around very sharp turns. I always used to slalom
behind it, not very bad, it would get off track a little when i would cut
(I was cutting pretty hard, one handed and everything, im not a novice
skier, but im only 13 and weighed only around 125lbs)

A friend of mine has a sea doo spx. We skied behind it a couple of times
last year and it worked fine. You can feel the people cutting and it
doesn't track real well if you are cutting hard. It is also very fast.
I barefooted behind it and it was moving. It is much faster than our
boat. Two of us also barefooted behind it at the same time too. It was
slower but it was still not bad. I would recommed a boat but a jet ski
is Ok too.

How did you manage to get 4 people on a jetski (driver, observer, 2
barefooters)?

We used a Kawasaki 750 a lot for skiing, but only towing the kids (5 & 7
at the time), and I can say that it was a very usefull tool to teach the
kids how to ski, slalom and wakeboard. Very manoeverable and cheap on
gas. We always kept our boat nearby though for safety...
As far as adult skiing... a big NONO IMHO. I could easely jerk my wife
on the jetski so hard she was thrown off, it took constantly steering,
countersteering and throttling up and down to make skiing possible. If
you intend to be pulled up and make easy slow turns accross the wakes it
might do, otherwise I think it is very dangerous. Skier weight
definitely is a factor (I go +200lbs) but even pulling the kids with me
on the jetski, I could feel it sway left and right when they were
crossing the wakes...
Also visibility to the back is mostle not adequate adding a danger
factor.

I didn't say that it was legal or anything like that. We didn't have an
observer and it is only a 2 seater. We did it at our show site and took
off and ended at the dock. It was also on a weekday and there were no
boats. We also have very little patrol where we ski. I am not
recommending this but just gave my observations about the power of it.

But, if you don't have a "real" boat with you, where are you going to
store the "boards" while you run around?

We keep what we're not using in the car or somewhere else on shore. When
you have the recommended 3 people for water skiing or what have you, the
extra 2 people have nothing to do while waiting for someone to buzz around
on the jet ski. The perfect people to keep an eye on your equipment!
