Does anybody know anything about MB Boats (Brendella)?
They got a good review in Waterski.
I have a good opportunity on a used one.

Thanks for any info.

Deryl,

MB Sports is owned by Mike Brendel (and others?). He previously
owned Ski Brendella which went into chapter 11 - I think. I had
heard that the chap.11 occurred because he got into trouble (financial)
because he carried his own dealer flooring. The MB's are still made
in Merced, CA.

Anyway, which MB are you looking at? I seriously considered the MB
210 - open bow. They are beautifull boats and relatively expensive.
I was given a 27 K quote on a new '96. Ride is better than some and
not as good as others. Tons of storage. Ugly (to me) gold anodized
fittings.

Email me if you have any specific questions.......rex

Before this gets too far let me weigh in with what I heard. It was my understanding that Mike
Brendel slipped up and let some investors get control of Brendella and that he left the company
shortly thereafter. I don't know what the subsequent history of the company has been. However,
if it did go into chapter 11 and MB yas in control at the time, then I and many others would
like to meet the people he convinced to invest in MB Sports. I for one have some bridges to
sell. Based on my personal experience the MB Sports product is superior to what Brendella was
putting out.

The story that I heard from an ex Ski-Brendella dealer, now an MB dealer, was
that Mike lost controlling interest in SB and the rest of the board wanted him
out. When they spent the money to buy him out they were unable to
recover and had to file chapter 11.

As far as MB boats are concerned, I have skied behind one ('95) in a couple of
tournaments and they had a nice wake at 15 off. I don't get to 22 off at
36mph so I can't comment on the wake at the shorter line lengths. I prefer
the wake on my Falon or the Tige', but the difference was not significant.
From a personal taste point of view they could do without the gold metal flake
stripes and the gold annodized aluminum hardware. They seem to be a
reasonably well built boat, but I haven't looked real closely.

These are not the opinions of Tektronix, I don't think they get involved in
boating and skiing issues. :-)

I own a 95 MB Boss 200. A great boat:

1) Slalom wake somewhere between a Tige (small) and a Mastercraft
(big).
2) Kick ass wakeboarding and kneeboarding wake at 16-21 mph at 22
off.
3) Excellent fit and finish.
4) Roomy, I like ski boats that you can walk between the drivers seat
and the engine cover.

From a driver's point of view it is good but not quite as good as a
Nautique, Mastercraft or Malibu.

1) Does not swing rear around when reverse is engaged.
2) Because of the"narrower" hull it tends to pivot on the vertical
plane when pulling a strong skier through the course. This does not
affect the directional stability of the boat, but takes some getting
used to.
3) The greatest driving feature is that it handles like a small boat
but pulls and tracks like a large one.

Bottom line.... I love the boat. I got more for my money compared to
a Mastercraft and Nautique ... and it looks GREAT!

Uh oh! You'd better put on your fire suit. Here come the Mastercraft
owners, gunning for you for calling MC wakes "big"! :-) (see other
topics on this group for examples of MC defense & attack).

Now there's a trick! I wouldn't have thought it possible for a
single-screw inboard to _not_ prop-walk in reverse.

It's true, unlike most inboards my MB does not swing the tail around.
This is NOT a positive feature of the boat, in fact it is a right
roaring pain in the "rear"!

I recently tested both MB boats at the Skiboat Boat Tests. Both models
were definite stand outs in a serious field. There was great attention to
detail. I especially liked the huge rear storage area. I would highly
reccommend MB Boats.

Hey Tony, By chance are you sponsored by MB? I was told that Mike reverse
engineered a MC 190 hull and put his nifty deck on it. I like the back
storage too.

Tony, you don't have a contract with MB Sports do you? Anyway, how many
boats were tested at the SkiBoat tests? It's nice to know that finally
someone else will have an opinion on boat performance. Were all the big
names included in the tests? I'm interestested to see how they would
compare to the California style I/O boats. When will this test issue be
available?
