I see that Casa Modena Unibon ha played several matches without several
of their usual starters lately. Saturday they lost quickly to Piaggio
Roma, but neither Bas van der Goor, Sanor Kantor or Ramon Gato played.
Anyone who knows why these players are out?

I also noticed that Alpitour Traco Cuneo suprisingly lost to french AS
Cannes at home - did they rest any of their best players this match or
did they play their best line up?

Bas Van Der Goor has a sprained ankle, Sandor Kantor has problem with
abdominal muscles, Ramon Gato is not playing well and he has problems with
a knee, the substitues are not so good and we sold Daniele Bagnoli (in my
opinion the strongest coach in the WORLD, now he is head coach in TREVISO)
and MARCO BRACCI too fast making our adversary stronger.
I don't know the problems of ALPITOUR CUNEO, we have enough problems here
in MODENA to think to other teams problem.
If you want to know more about CASA MODENA UNIBON you can write me in this
NEWSGROUP, or send me an E-MAIL (cri...@tin.it).
Ciao, CRIS -Modena, Italy-

Despite this, Casa Modena quickly beated Paris Volley for the European
Champions Cup. This was an impressive example of the important difference
between your championship and all others in Europe....

You seem to closely follow your team : it would be interesting to have news
from time to time of italian championship. I have to chance to see some
matches on TV (AB Sports, here in France, shows one italian match per week),
but I'm not sure that this is the same for all contributors here.

And there *are* people from Europe, though they are quite silent....

Concerning the Cuneo lost against Cannes, I think that Cuneo is not very
strong this year. The A League is at this moment strongly dominated by
Treviso...

PS to Are : I'm currently trying to locate the tapes!

I tought Cuneo was going to be the best team in the Italian league, do they
still have pascuale, Grbic , Hernandez and cie ? If it is the case that is a
very big surprise not to see them on top.

Starting line up for Cuneo: Nikola Grbic (s), Cristian Casoli (OH), Alain Roca
(OH), Ishovani Hernandez (MB), Luigi Mastrangelo (MB), Rafael Pascual (O) - an
impressive team, but not as impressive as this:
Starting line up for Treviso: Peter Blangé (S), Lorenzo Bernardi (OH), Samuele
Papi (OH), Pasquale Gravina (MB), Andrea Gardini (MB), Dmitry Fomin (O) - no
less than three starters from the Italian World Champions, and the other three
are not bad either ....

Anyway - it's final four in the italian cup this weekend, so the two teams will
probably meet in the final as Modena (with all their injuries) will probably not
be a match for Treviso, and I think Cuneo is a better team than Palermo.

I know, but in the EUROPEAN CUP, they have lost against a French Team not
so strong, maybe because of RALLY POINT SISTEM.
MODENA, instead, has a lot of problem (this not the right year), bye CRIS

As far as I remember, yes. But my memory may be wrong...:-).

They are ranked second, quite far from Sisley Treviso. But this is of a
quite relative importance, all this may change during the play-off.

The lineup for Treviso is quite impressive indeed. Is Fomin still playing
for the Russian national team ? And where is Vladimir Grbic playing ?
Does anybody has tapes of the matches of the Italian league, these videos of
high caliber volleyball are considered like gold here in Quebec cause we
don't have the opportunity of seeing pro volleyball very often (Don't bother
me with the beach game I find this hybrid of the game very uninteresting).

Fomin did play a bit for Russia in the WC, he and Roman Jakovlev shared the
opposite position.
Vladimir Grbic playes for Piaggio Roma - another impressing squad. The other
players in the first six are Marcello Negrao, BRA (O), Paolo Tofoli (S), Vigor
Bovolenta (MB), Alexander Schadchin, UKR (MB) and Marco Bracci (OH).

Last fall I bought a satelite dish so that I could be able to watch some of the
action from the WC in Japan (unfortunately approx. 300 european chanels wasn't
enough to get to see _any_ WC-volleyball ...... ). I can now watch what RAI 3
(Italy) shows from the italian Serie A volleyball. They usually send something
every week, sometimes just a set, usually 2-3 sets and now and then a whole
match. That alone is worth the dish-investment!

"Not so strong" is to be discussed...:-). After all, Cannes is in the top-3
of the french championship and was finalist last year.

I didn't see the match, but I'm quite sure that Cuneo lost against Cannes
just because they scored less points than their opponents..:-). On the other
hand, Modena beated the french champion just because they scored more points..

The italian opposition to Rally Scoring is, imho, a lost-in-advance-battle.
All top level countries in VB have already adopted RS and FIPAV would only
take the risk os losing the rank acquired in Japan by delaying the adoption
in all national leagues.

The national team has been reconstructed after several difficult years
(IMHO, due to the crazy importation of foreign players in your national
leagues....thus barring the emergence of good young players).
