Top male and female doubles teams will compete for $5,000 cash prizes
at the tournament. Players will also earn points in the $15,000
AVPNext Wilson Grand Prix, to be awarded at the end of the season.
Tournament play will start at 9 am Saturday with semi-finals and
finals starting Sunday at 11 am. Admission is free for all spectators.
The tournament will be held on the beach at Riverside Blvd.
The Big Shot Volleyball Series holds 35 events leading to the October
17-18 $5,000 Bud Light AVPNext National Championships at Siesta Key
beach in Sarasota, FL.
Top male players in this weekend’s tournament include Texas stars
Colin Kaslow and Tim Wooliver, Brooklyn’s Top player, Mike Salk, and
his Ghanaian partner, Seidu Ajanako, and defending champions Greg
Hunter from the Jersey Shore. All have played on the AVP Pro Beach
Volleyball Tour.
Top female players include Long Beach’s own Dana Fiume, who has been
traveling around the country playing on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball
Tour. She had a personal best finish at the recent AVP Coney Island
Open in July, finishing in 13th place. She also won the barefoot LI
Championship which awarded a trip to the Barefoot Cup Championships in
San Francisco as part of the AVP San Francisco Open. Dana will be
playing in Long Beach with Shayna Munson from Ft. Lauderdale as
defending champions
Also competing is the top Montreal team Eve Dansereau and France
Diotte, Manhattan star Ginger Schuster and her up and coming partner
Katie Wright from NJ
Separate divisions will be held for players of intermediate and novice
levels on Saturday and Sunday. The $60 entry fee entitles players to a
full day of tournament play, an official Totally Light 2 GO Big Shot
Volleyball t-shirt, and prizes from event sponsor’s Bally’s Casino,
