Chill’s Aleksandersen Named
USPV Coach Of The Year
OAKBROOK TERRACE, ILL., May 14, 2002_ The United States Professional
Volleyball league (USPV) today announced Minnesota Chill head coach
Tore Aleksandersen has been named USPV Coach of the Year for the 2002
Inaugural Season.
Aleksandersen helped lead Minnesota to the first USPV Championship.
The Chill defeated the Chicago Thunder 3-1 in the best-of-5
championship series.
Minnesota also won the USPV regular season title, amassing an 11-7
record (36 points). The Chill started the season 7-1 and never left
the league’s first place perch, an impressive span of 71 days.
Aleksandersen directed the team to both the league and regular season
championship despite having a roster ravaged with injuries throughout
the season.
For the entire USPV Championship Series, Minnesota played with two
healthy bench players. The Chill, which had three players operated on
during the championship round, played the series against Chicago
without two starters (Lindsay Henning and Brandy Barratt).
Henning missed the majority of the season with a serious shoulder
injury. Barratt injured her knee in the semifinals.
Aleksandersen, 34, a native of Molde, Norway, was previously the head
coach of the Norway Senior National Women’s Team. Aleksandersen
is credited with completely revamping the National Team program in
Norway.
Chicago head coach Gido Vermuelen finished second in the voting.
