Grand United Women's and Men's Tour - Triple Crown Round 2 on Manly Beach,
Sydney, South Australia
Jaunary 5-7, 2001

Sydney, New South Wales - Beach volleyball gold medallists Kerri Pottharst and
Natalie Cook are still looking for a quality hit-out to test their post-Olympic
skills.

The pair was itching for the scheduled showdown with fellow Olympians Tania
Gooley and Pauline Manser in the final of the Grand United Tour at Glenelg
Beach, Adelaide, just prior to Christmas.

That match was never played, with Gooley and Manser forced to forfeit after a
neck strain stopped Gooley in her tracks. "We were looking forward to the
contest with Tania and Pauline and seeing where were at and getting a true
indication of how much training we need to do," said Cook, likely to face-off
against a fit Gooley in Manly this weekend.

Cook and Pottharst will come back even more refreshed to Manly Beach after
skipping the SA Open over Christmas - the first time they have missed the
prestigious event in six years.

"We love Adelaide and the event but we decided to have a break," said Cook, who
spent Christmas on Fraser Island with family and friends. "We feasted on
seafood and turkey and had the Jet ski and 4WD; it was great."

Pottharst, who spent Christmas in Melbourne, said the pair relished the chance
to rest after experiencing a whirlwind of post-Olympic media interest. "We
needed to have a break and be with family and friends. It has been so busy
since the Olympics and it was great to take off and enjoy not being beach
volleyballers," Pottharst said. "Now the batteries are charged and we are
raring to go."

Cook is happy to be back on familiar territory at Manly. It is the stretch of
sand where she competed and trained extensively alongside Pottharst before
Atlanta, where the pair claimed bronze, and Sydney. The dynamic duo won the
corresponding event last year and are primed to defend their title and make it
two from two in the Triple Crown series.

"We are just enjoying the summer and playing in front of Australian
crowds…more educated Australian crowds after the success of beach volleyball
at the Olympics," Cook said.

The pair, keen to reach their peak before the World Tour starts in April, will
compete in a 15-team women's tournament.
Glenelg third place-getters Kylie Gerlic and Summer Lochowicz and Grand United
Stingers pair Annette Huygens-Tholen and Emma Prowse (fourth in Round 1)
feature high on the list of podium contenders.

In the 24-team men's competition, Julien Prosser and Lee Zahner will have to
fight all the way to build on their victory in Glenelg. The dual Olympians,
who overcame Andrew Schacht and Victor Anfiloff to take the prize money in
Adelaide, will face a host of contenders - none bigger than fellow Olympians
Matt Grinlaubs and Joshua Slack. Grinlaubs and Slack did not play in Glenelg
but are motivated and ready to return with a bang in Manly after sticking to a
rigorous training schedule in Queensland.

"We have been training a lot without competing and are keen to do really well,"
said Slack, who teamed up with Grinlaubs last year to storm into the Olympics
on the back of some stand-out World Tour results, including a win over
Brazilian world No. 1 team Emanuel and Loiola.

New Zealand pair Tom Eade and Jason Taikato, third in Glenelg, are confident
they can beat anyone in Manly on their day. "It depends on how the draw goes,
we could end up with a tough team early in the tournament, but I think anyone
could beat anyone on their day," said Eade, who plans to join forces with
regular partner and fellow Kiwi Craig Susu after Manly. Experienced Seuseu,
who has partnered Eade for five years, is recovering from a knee strain and
expects to be fit to join Eade for the next Triple Crown event in Surfers
Paradise on January 26-28.

While Australia's best senior beach athletes vie for $20,000 in prize money
($10,000 for both men and women), some of the world's top juniors will also
seek to make their mark. With the Sydney Youth Olympic Festival beach
volleyball tournament set to kick off on the same beach on January 10, at least
two of the junior teams have signed up for a chance to topple the established
stars.

The action on the beach will not be restricted to elite competition, with the
hugely popular One.Tel Celebrity Challenge once again ready to pit Australian
and international stars against each other in a serious four-on-four
competition on Saturday at 12.30 p.m.

Competition will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Manly Beach, with
the finals on Sunday scheduled for 2 p.m. (men) and 3 p.m. (women)
