Prizes: $2,000 for Women's teams & $7,500 for men's teams
Details:
The 2nd Annual $9,500 Hurricane Harbor Pro Tour Preview will attract
top professional beach volleyball players to the water park in a
warm-up tournament for the August 17-20 AVP Pro beach Volleyball
Tournament at Coney Island in NYC. All of the player's in the Pro
tour Preview are expected to compete in the Coney Island AVP
tournament.
2006 Results w/ hometowns and best AVP Pro Tour finish:
1st Ben Koski (Santa Barbara, CA , 9th) and Jeff Minc (Santa Barbara,
CA, 9th0
2nd Matt Heath (Myrtle Beach, SC, 5th) and Ryan Mariano (Lake Forest,
CA, 9th)
3rd Jim Nichols (Encinatas, CA, 4th) and Mike DiPierro (Pompano Beach,
FL, 25th)
3rd Scott Lane (Las Vegas, NV, 9th) and Chad Mowrey (Tahoka, TX, 5th)
Even higher level players are expected to compete this year as the
tournament is now established with the AVP players. Local players will
also be competing. Top seeded NJ players expected to play include AJ
Mihalic (Wall, NJ now residing in Hermosa Beach, CA) and Ihor Akinshyn
(Mahwah, NJ). Mihalic played college ball at NJIT in Newark and was a
top player in East Coast beach tournaments before moving to California.
Akinshyn played at nationally ranked Rutgers-Newark and won the Big
Shot Volleyball Tournament June 16 at the Hilton Casino and the 2004
Gulfview Championships in Clearwater Beach, FL while playing with top
NYC player Elvis Rodriguez.
The Hurricane Harbor Pro Tour Preview will be played on three courts
located in the middle of the water park. Beach volleyball players are
know for being very accessible and fan friendly. The Hurricane Harbor
will allow beach volleyball fans to see many top players up close and
personal. Discount admission tickets for the tournament can be
purchased through East End Volleyball.
The Pro tour Preview is sanctioned by AVPNext, the grass roots
organization of the AVP Pro beach Volleyball Tour. Additional player
